The creators of the popular DivX video format also make this freeware bundle for playing and encoding DivX files. Video and audio playback is fairly smooth, and you can shift among full-screen, compact, and console modes using the right-click context menu. Skins are available on the publisher's site.
The installation offers a six-month trial of the Pro version of the encoder. The help file is external, on a live Web site, and not very helpful for answering basic questions such as what formats you can play and where to install skins. The codec's user guide is a separate download.
The program eats nearly 20MB even when there's no video playing. But, if you simply need to view DivX files or convert other files to the DivX format, this bundle is an adequate option.

The DivX Player plays all .AVI and .divx files that contain DivX video and MP3 audio (including DivX 3, 4, 5 and 6 video formats), and enables access to rented and purchased DivX movies. The DivX codec extends DivX playback support to all popular media players. This package supports English, French, German and Japanese languages.
DivX Player is optimized to play every DivX file with full support for all the advanced features of DivX including scene selection menus, chapters, subtitles, video tags and alternate audio tracks. The latest version of the DivX Player adds a download manager that allows you to download multiple videos, pause and resume downloads, and progressively play back video, a media manager, and a new burn-to-disc feature for creating DivX discs from within the player.
Note: The DivX Play Bundle includes the optional Google Toolbar for easy web searches and pop-up blocking.

Version: DivX Play Bundle with DivX Player 6.2
Pros: The DivX budle is no doubt a usefull download. It installs codecs onto your computer so that it is possible to view the advanced video format "DivX". Along with this usefull codec the bundle comes with a DivX player for playing video in "DivX and AVI" format. For me the codecs were a nessesety since i rip DVD's to my Hard Drive in the format of DivX because of the good quality to size ratio. The codecs decode and play DivX files very efficiently, and could be a nessesity for many people like me.
Cons: Even though the codecs are great, i didnt see much point in installing the players for the soul purpose of just playing video's, since once the codecs are installed, windows media player and real player can play DivX files. Thankfully for my purpose it is possible to just install the codecs without the players. Also a little bit shocked by the size of the download, thought it was a little large for just a simple player and codecs. Nevertheless the codecs and player definitely work well.

Pros: Got my .avi files playing in any media player I wanted. Works, opens, and closes fast. Does not take much RAM.
Cons: Bit of a large file to download.

"IF YOU DOWNLOAD MEDIA OFF OF LIMEWIRE, DOWNLOAD THIS"
Pros: This is awesome... If you're into ripping, burning and scaling movies down for file sharing, GET THIS. When i download movies, it's 700 MB on the line usually, with a screen about the size of a PSP screen. When i size it up to full screen, PERFECT graphics. It's insane, i don't know how the codecs work that good...
Cons: I think they should have a free DivX ripper included.
