The beauty of Diskeeper is its simplicity. All you do is load it and schedule it to launch, and it keeps your computer running quickly without the need to manually defrag. Unfortunately, obtaining the application isn't as simple as using it. You must visit the publisher site, fill out a form, then wait for an e-mail containing the download. The program itself, however, is tremendously efficient, increasing our test computer's read time by more than 20 percent. One of Diskeeper's best features is the Set It And Forget It scheduler, which runs the program in the background. For example, you can set it to automatically start when your PC is idling in screensaver mode, or schedule it to run every day, or only on weekends. Another bonus is Diskeeper keeps your swap file at the front of the disk, which makes transferring information considerably faster. The performance and functionality are superior to those of similar programs, and the user interface is intuitive. Diskeeper is well suited to a wide range of users seeking better system performance.Publisher's description

"No better than Windows defragmenter."
Pros: does what it claims, i think
Cons: Takes 3 hours to do what it says. Windows takes ~an hour.

Version: Diskeeper 2007
Pros: Not bad but perfectdisk and o&o are better.
Diskeeper it's good for large harddisk, but not too suitable for small space of harddisk.
Cons: takes longer time for defragmenting.

"My favorite defragment program"
Pros: It features several types of defragging to be done to your harddrive. You can "Set it and Forget it" which lets it run all of them automatically with a schedule. This program was the remedy to my hard drive that was really fragmentated and it optimized it.
Cons: The trial is short and program is 30 bucks :/ but its well worth it.

Version: Diskeeper 2007
Pros: I used to use PerfectDisk for the longest time and loved it - but recently gave Diskeeper 10 a try and especially was interested in the "i-faast" method.
Diskeeper papers explain "I-faast" as an HD calibration method, which, amongst other functions, bypasses the logical filesystem which often has NOTHING to do how clusters are arranged on the REAL physical platter of a harddisk. In other words:
This time they look at the REAL arrangement of sectors on the disk instead what the filesystem/drivers/OS tells (which is often different).
Anyway - with old school defraggers like PD or ANY other i know on my 85% full HD the free space gap (after a defrag) is ALWAYS consolidated THAT way that the free space is at the END of the HD. On recent HDs the "end" of a HD is *usually* around 50% slower (in MB/secs transferrates) than on the outer side of the HD.
The fuller your HD gets, the smaller the free space, the more the free space "wanders" down to the back of the HD - making ALL new file HD write operations, all file accesses tpo new files SLOWER than you had when your HD was almost empty.
To my DELIGHT - after several tests and evaluating DK10 i see that my free space gap is NOT at the end of the HD anymore - but resides in the first third of the HD - retaining the good speed.
The back of the HD is filled with files like long videos etc. where speed really is not important.
I really like this.
After running DK10 & i-faast for over a week now (after first always had a perfectly defragged HD with PerfectDisk) - i can *clearly* feel a more snappier system with Diskeeper 10.
My HD head seeks are reduced and some programs load even faster than they did before.
Cons: As said i like DK10 and what it does - but then i was never a friend of scheduling whereas DK is heavily based on. DK's philosophy is to set schedules for primary and/or i-faast and then just let it do its job.
I was/am more a "do it now" person, defraging when i think i want to and not being surprised by the defraggers kick in while i am playing games etc.
NEVERTHELESS - the more you schedule it (eg. daily/smart for primaryt/i-faast) - the faster the defrag runs - because it will only move new files. After a week or so my defrag runs are extremely fast.
Another advantage is that the schedules keep your HD always in shape - self-maintaining, so to speak.
I just wish a little option for temporarily disable the service quickly before gaming etc. Otherwise you have to stick with disabling the DK service in the windows/administration panels which takes some seconds to click around and is probably rather for more experienced users.
In general: Very good defragger with the best results i've seen so far. (Coming from a long-time PerfectDisk supporter)

"Norton Speed disk, Windows Disk defrag..."
Pros: None
Cons: I think I will just use Windows disk Defrag, but I bought NSW so the package includes Norton Speed Disk.
