Publisher's description of Diskeeper 10

From Diskeeper Corporation:

Computers can slow down over time, and disk fragmentation is generally one of the causes. Fragmented files are broken up and stored on various parts of your disk causing slowdowns, crashes, and slow boot times. The new Diskeeper 10 keeps your PC running as fast as it did when it was new. You'll have no more time-consuming manual defragmentation jobs. Just install Diskeeper 10, then set it and forget it. The program also uses a high-speed defragmentation engine that runs unnoticed in the background, eliminating fragmentation while you use your PC.

  • Version reviewed: Diskeeper 10
The beauty of Diskeeper is its simplicity. All you do is load it and schedule it to launch, and it keeps your computer running quickly without the need to manually defrag. Unfortunately, obtaining the application isn't as simple as using it. You must visit the publisher site, fill out a form, then wait for an e-mail containing the download. The program is tremendously efficient, increasing our test computer's read time by more than 20 percent. One of Diskeeper's best features is the "Set It and Forget It" scheduler that runs the program in the background. For example, you can set it to automatically start when your PC is idling in screensaver mode, or you can schedule it run every day or only on weekends. Another bonus is that Diskeeper keeps your swap file at the front of the disk, which makes information transferring considerably faster. The performance and functionality are superior to similar programs, and the user interface is intuitive. Besides the aforementioned hassles getting the program on our machine, our main complaint concerns the rather short 15-day trial period. Still, since home and professional versions are available from the same installer, Diskeeper is suited to a wide range of users seeking better system performance.

by skizz on November 21, 2005

Pros: alot faster than windows defragger.it allows its self to take the place of the built in defragger also.

Cons: it allows its self to take the place of windows defragger. personally i like to use things seperate not have them take the place of on their own.

    "Saves me alot of time"

by goldengreeke on April 10, 2005

Pros: I've tried Perfect Disk And O&O Defrag, but I prefer Diskeeper to the others. Like it says,"set it and forget it". Mine is set to defrag every time my screen saver comes on, so I never have to worry. A clean disk keeps your pc running fast and smooth. I recommend Diseeper 9.0 and give it 5 stars and TWO thumbs UP!

"Works where others fail horribly. The best defrag utility on the market."

by delafoo on March 25, 2005

Pros: I downloaded Perfect disk 7 from here on download... used it to defrag a 250GB external drive and it got hung up and didn't finish defragging... and it ended up deleting my disk content (so did the Windows defragger as they run on the same file system).

Well, I decided to run diskeeper on it. No hangups, no deletion etc.

To further test it, I ran it on another external drive with a known physical defect on the drive itself... all other defrag utilites hung up, had errors, or shut down. Not diskeeper. Ran with no problems.

Definately a good program for a PC junkie like me, and for newbies too.

As for uninstalling... If you'll read your windows XP manual, you'll learn how to use your control panel to delete. This program is easy to delete through the control panel and comes with an uninstaller. It is way faster than the windows defragger, does a better job... and best of all, if you don't want to wait for 2 hours for defragging while it works (like you do with XP's defragger), you can run this baby anytime you want!!! It uses minimal memory and will defrag even while you play on your PC. I well spent few dollars!!!

    "Get something better"

    by Anonymous220 on September 30, 2005

Cons: I prefer PerfectDisk and O & O, these two defrag makes my windows running more stable unlike Diskeeper, it makes my windows running fast but it swings my mouse running faster and while open on Start>Program Files it eats lot of memory and caused my windows running slower. This is my point, and i dont like Diskeeper maybe at 1st u will find out it really improve but..at the end u will not, trust me get prefectdisk or O&O instead of Diskeeper.
