Publisher's Description
From Keyoe:
From the developer: "Diet & Exercise Assistant helps you to achieve your fitness and weight loss objectives by giving you the tools you need to manage your diet. Establish a weight loss program by setting a weight loss goal and target date. Monitor progress with historical charts and graphs. A calorie calculator automatically calculates the calories you need to remove from your diet in order to achieve your weight loss goals. Track your nutrition by monitoring calories, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, fat, and saturated fat. A large food database with thousands of food items is available with all of the nutrient information to make tracking your nutrition easy.
"Track your exercise by selecting an activity from a large exercise database. Input the minutes spent exercising, and Diet & Exercise Assistant will automatically calculate the calories you burned. If an exercise is not in the database, you can log your own user-defined exercises. Use the Logbook to quickly summarize the calories you have consumed from food and subtract the calories you expend through exercise, at work, and while resting. The total is then conveniently compared to your goal for the day."

"Had promise...boy was I disappointed!!!"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Pros
Seems very customizable, drag and drop features for reorganizing groups & categories are nice.
Cons
As others have said, the demo version is a total joke. I had to buy the software to discover what a waste of money it was.
Summary
After getting nowhere with the demo, I decided to purchase the software anyway because it seem very user-friendly. Now I'm out $35 and stuck with software I don't like.
I've used BalanceLog for years, but since the company that bought out Healthetech has no plans to make some needed improvements to their customization features, I've become very frustrated with some of their system limitations. I thought D&E Assistant was the answer...boy was I wrong!
Problems:
-- Yes, you can add custom categories, but all of the alpha data fields are limited to 20 characters. Try entering a meaningful description in 20 letters or less! And because of the limitations when entering custom foods (see below), they really need sub-categories as well.
-- There is only one field to enter the food name, which leaves no room to differentiate brands, etc., especially given the 20-character limit. BalanceLog gives 3 unlimited fields: food name, type, and brand. This allows multiple instances of the same food item for different brands. Keyoe's solution to this was to add a category for each brand, but that doesn't work if you want the foods grouped by type. I want all of my pizzas in one place, not spread out under different brand categories.
-- Also, this software only tracks 6 items in its nutritional information: calories, carbs, protein, fiber, fat, and saturated fat. BalanceLog measures 14; Calorie King has 10.
-- The exercise database is very limited. BalanceLog has almost 300 activities; this one has less than 1/3 of that number. Who wants to have to enter all those other ones manually?
In short, I'm chalking this one up as a bad investment. I'm sticking with BalanceLog for now, but I'm exploring some other options (CalorieKing looks promising...and has a fully functioning demo!) -
"Keyoe is apparently out of business."
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Pros
The concept is wonderful, and if the software works, it works well; it makes it easy to keep track of everything you eat and how it fits into WHATEVER type of diet you wish to follow; it also makes appropriate adjustments for all your exercises.
Cons
When it dies NOT work you cannot get support; their web-site doesn't answer your email, and their phone in Johnson City TN has been disconnected.
Summary
A great program in the past (I've used it off & on for almost 10 years); but since the company has apparently folded without providing for continuing support to users, it is now a waste of money. Look elsewhere.

"Simple to use and it works!"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Pros
It's amazing how easy it is to lose weight once you have an idea how much you are consuming per day. This program (version 7) does an excellent job managing your information and points you in the right direction. I now find myself reading the nutritional charts on every food item. If you record everything you eat and stay within the target calorie goal per day, the odds are you will lose weight. Since using it, I lost approximately 15 lbs in 30 days. I should drop at least another 10 lb within the next 30 days. My wife is also using it and she lost 10 lbs.

"Bait and Switch?"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Pros
The program seems easy to use, and the graphics are nice. Since the demo program is restricted to the point of uselessness, this is based on a lot of extrapolation.
Cons
As mentioned above, and elsewhere, the fact that only one item from any food group, per day, can be recorded makes this program of no use for the normal participant.
And the claim that the program is better if bought is also without validity.
I have not been able to buy this program here, or anywhere else.
It seems to have been replaced with a version 7, which costs five dollars more!

"This Program Rocks!"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Pros
The program is easy to use and is customizable to meet your needs in the foods and exercise catagories. It automatically calculates daily intake of calories and subtracts for workouts, bmr or daily activities done to keep you up to the minute on caloric allowences. You can choose what type of diet plan you want when setting your goals and get customized recomendations for % of carbs, fats, protein etc. There is also an area to log body measurements, blood pressure, pulse, daily journals and graphs, which can be changed to display weight loss by the week or month. There are many more features on this program that I think it would be great for anyone serious about getting fit and eating right. It is worth the $19.95.
Cons
So far I have not found anything I dislike about this program.

"So, far it's great! I haven't gotten to use it yet, but I think I'll like it!"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Pros
I haven't tried it yet, I don't know!

"Great tool for weight loss 4 stars!"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Pros
The system makes it simple to track calories consumed and expended on a daily basis and track progress daily. Supports multiple diet systems such as low-carb. Extensive food library includes many restaurnt items & any food category can be extended with your favorites. I have learned that I consume few calories on days when I exercise, a real useful discovery and a big motivator! I lost over 10 lbs in the first two months so far.
Cons
An update of OS wiped out Program & data from system requiring reinstallation. I lost all historical data. Restore feature provided by support did not work for me.
Copy and paste feature makes it easy to duplicate an item from one day to another but only works on one item at a time. Multi-Item copy/paste feature needed to duplicate a whole meal. Some restaurant food item updates needed. Lack of desktop app makes it impossible to print out data. System tracks weight loss but not track changes in body fat.

"Best program of it's kind."
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Summary
I've been using this program for almost two years with many different handhelds and it has been my most used program. I love it and use it everyday. And when I had to replace my handheld for other reasons, it was very easy for me to redownload the program for free. I would recommend this to anybody.

"Top notch diet tracker"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Summary
Forget the reviews talking about the demo version being poor - the paid version is worth every penny.
This thing could NOT be more intuitive to use - I was up and running immediately. It tracks your weight, gives you a calorie budget based on your size and goals, tracks everything you eat with a few simple dropdown lists...VERY easy to use. Could not be happier.
It's turning out to be easier than I thought to lose weight with this little helper - it really highlights the areas that kill your caloric intake. I still eat comfortable meals, don't feel hungry, and I'm still hitting my target calories (or lower) and the pounds are dropping off.
Try it. -
"Comparativly speaking it is the best I have seen!"
Version: Diet & Exercise Assistant 4.0
Summary
I have downloaded and tested all the palmOS diet and execise programs. This is the easiest to use with the most features. It is true that the demo is a restricted demo, but you can use all the features with limits. I am about to purchase the full feature.
