Publisher's description
From Idea2 :Desktop Sidebar provides you with instant access to the information you most desire by grabbing data from your PC and the Internet. The result is a dynamic visual display you configure and control. You make this possible by choosing from among a wide selection of information conduits (MS Outlook, toolbars, newsfeeds), called panels. Fully customizable, Desktop Sidebar allows you to dock these panels to the edge of the screen or arrange them anywhere on your desktop as you wish. All panels are configurable with a number of specific options. With hundreds of skins available on our Web site and an easy-to-use Skin Editor, you can freely change the appearance of Desktop Sidebar to suit your tastes. Available panels include Newsroom, Calendar, Tasks, Inbox, Notes, Performance, Mail Checker, Clock, Messenger, Miranda IM and ICQ, Media Player, WinAmp, Volume Control, Toolbar, Weather, and Search Bar.

Version: Desktop Sidebar 1.04.75
"Windows Vista functionality for Windows XP"
Pros: One of the many changes that Windows Vista will incorporate into it's visual style is a sidebar that contains xml panels that can be arranged in any way the user wants. This sidebar will have many functions, and can be even used to replace the taskbar in Windows. Of course, you would have to pay a chunk of change to upgrade to Windows Vista in order to get these valuable new features. With Desktop Sidebar, however, you don't have to spend one cent to get the same functionality that the new Sidebar in Vista will have. This is a wonderful program that contains so many useful features, that I won't be able to describe them all here (especially since you can get so much more with the plugins). Some of my favorites are the feature that allows you to see how much of your CPU is being used at a glance. That is really useful because it lets you know if something suddenly takes over valuable processing space. This is now my main RSS reader. In the past, I have had many programs built into browsers that I used to read RSS, but of course, the browser would have to be open to read them. Now I can have my news right on my desktop, and I can keep up to date with the news from the sites that I want. It has buttons to start MSN Messenger, add notes to Outlook, Quicklaunch programs, and more. It even has the ability to open up Windows Media Player. The default skins are nice, and you can always get more.
Cons: If you have a very small screen resolution, then beware, because this program will use up valuable screen real estate. But then again, you can set the sidebar to auto-hide itself, and it will only show up when you want it to. It may take a little tinkering around with to get a feel for this software, but for what it adds to your computer, it is really worth it. This is a must have enhancement for any Windows PC, but especially for Windows XP. Once you try this, you will be hooked on it.

"Brilliance - It'll Keep You Amused Until Vista"
Pros: Desktop Sidebar is an excellent utility to have if you're a busy body on the move. RSS Feeding from News website and any other RSS Feed offering websites allow fast and efficient viewing of the latest information in real-time.
Monitoring CPU usage and system diagnostics is extremely useful for overclockers and benchmarking, it also gives an incling into malicious software that may be utilise your CPU for unpleasement purposes. Application ordering is a very useful feature for commonly used programs and again is a feature that i look forward to seeing in Windows Vista. Microsoft are also planning to release a Windows Vista-esqe Taskbar in the near future, but for justnow, this is your best bet. The GUI is clear and concise and for a novice user and experienced user alike, is simple to navigate and customise. A brilliant download.
Cons: There are no flaws i can find with this software.

Version: Desktop Sidebar 1.04.75
Pros: Everything is right there for you to open without having to look for. Well designed and easy to use. A little hint: once you download, go to the plug-ins and get some like the IP viewer, it shows you IP address and will enable you to ping yourself. This way you can drive Norton Internet Security crazy, you are attacking yourself!
Cons: It want's memory. It will eat it up. This will put your system at a crawl if you don't have alot of memory to spare.

Version: Desktop Sidebar 1.04.75
Pros: Doesn't dock by default
Cons: The calendar has to be added. Docing dynamically in the right sidebar has to be initiated by using the HIDE item (right click first). After restaring the calendar doesn't work.
