It's designed to simplify online log-in, but this IE add-on has some security holes.

DejaSurf's simple menu consists of a single icon that leads to a pull-down menu from which you can access Preferences, Form Settings, and the Master Password. Through the first, you specify whether you want DejaSurf to enable automatic password and form fill-in capabilities. Each time you log on to a Web site, DejaSurf will ask if you want it to remember the information.

To have forms filled in, you'll have to enter personal information, from name and address to credit card information. And that's where the security flaw exists. You can set a master password, and you'll be required to enter it each time you want the program to remember log-in information, but anyone can access your personal information without entering a password. If others have access to your computer, your credit card and other data is easily accessible. We would have preferred that the Master Password protect all information that DejaSurf stores. Another downside is that you have to be connected to the Internet to enter or change the information in the Form Settings. Other programs allow offline management of the data it stores.

There's a 14-day trial period with the demo version, but security-conscious users won't need that long to see the gaps in DejaSurf's ability to keep your personal data private. Users should try out other password managers that build in more security measures.
