Publisher's Description
From Propaganda Productions:
Deja Vu is a preference pane which allows you to schedule unattended backups of important folders, or even your entire system. It is quite capable of producing an accurate, bootable copy of your system. It can also be used to synchronize the contents of two folders. So far, Deja Vu has been localized for English, French and German.
What's new in this version: Even more robust handling of the system crontab. Since version 1.2.1, Deja Vu has made a backup of your system crontab file the first time it runs. If for any reason anything happens to your crontab (nothing ever should), Deja Vu can now automatically restore it from the backup file.

"IT'S ABOUT FRIKIN' TIME THEY RELEASED AN UPDATE!"
Version: Deja Vu 3.7.4
Pros
When it works, it's great.
Cons
Customer support - BWAAA! HA! HA! HA!
Summary
These guys have no souls, don't waste your time asking for help, even if you follow their instructions to a "T" it's not going to happen. They'll be in the 7th circle burning with bathroom and kitchen contractors.

"Great supplement to time machine."
Version: Deja Vu 3.7.3
Pros
Flexible back-up options.
Cons
Need to use another app to remind me to perform manual back-ups.
Summary
In addition to my boot and time machine volumes I keep mounted two other volumes for data storage. I also manually maintain additional back-ups: A Carbon Copy Clone of my boot drive, and through Deja Vu, back-ups of selected folders from my data drives to yet another drive that I only mount for back-up purposes. Deja Vu gives me peace of mind, especially having had two data drive failures over the years!

"Virtually no technical support"
Version: Deja Vu 3.6
Pros
I can't vouch for the product, since I was unable to backup files from a Mac running OS 10.5.8 to a volume on a Mac running OS 10.6.6.
Cons
The company has an explicit business philosophy to the effect that "Technical support is a privilege, not a right."
Summary
The company offers a trial period, but after that you're more or less on your own if you have any problems. In other words, technical support is virtually non-existent.

I've been using Deja Vu for years. Now, I am having a serious problem. I've emailed multiple times asking for support, no reply.
I'm very disappointed. Do not buy this product. If you have a problem, you will not get support. -
"my favorite backup app"
Version: Deja Vu 3.4.1
Summary

The options and interface suit my need to backup fast and easily well. This app backs up "files and folders" as they are instead of compressing them into a proprietary format like other apps. Author is responsive to questions. This app uses the unix program psync. -
"Excellent software"
Version: Deja Vu 3.3b10
Summary

I've been using it for a couple of years and it does it's job without complaint, other than that I need to get a bigger backup drive. :) I'm backing up nightly to my 20G iPod of which I use about 8GB for backup files. Smooth as silk. The only feature I want at this point to be added is encryption of the data on the backup drive so that if my iPod were lost or stolen my data would be protected. -

even more now that it is finally able to run on the Intel based Macs. It's intuitive and it works without getting in the way. If you only buy one backup solution make sure it is this one! -
"Deja Vu 3.2.1"
Version: Deja Vu 3.2.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I seriously disagree with those who are knocking this product. I have used it on a daily basis for over six months. I have had virtually no trouble with it since I put the learning curve behind me. The only exception was yesterday. I had a problem with the 3.2.1 update. The forum was down, so I used the email support address that is plainly displayed on the publisher's web site. FYI, it is dejavu@propagandaprod.com. I received a response within just a few hours of sending my help request together with a link to a download that cured my problem. I rate the responsiveness and quality of the service from this company as excellent because that has been my experience every time I've needed an assist. No exceptions. I have had a wonderful experience with Deja Vu. My backups have saved my skin several times as I have navigated the string of updates associated with OS X. I cannot say enough good about Deja Vu. -
"Junkware ..."
Version: Deja Vu 3.2.1
Summary

This is exceptionally unreliable backup software. DO NOT BUY IT!
I have encountered numerous problems (I am running Panther 10.3.9), including backups that are supposed to "mirror", but don't even closely do so, and scheduled backups that don't run on schedule!
My attempt to contact the developer by e-mail to find out how to uninstall this useless piece of bugware has been met with stone-cold silence ... not surprised, I guess ... live and learn ... -
"Doesn't meet first requirement of backup software,..."
Version: Deja Vu 3.2.1
Summary
...reliability!
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This software is unreliable (got it with Toast 7).
It somehow got certain folders confused on target once. I have my folders named by month (mar05, apr05, etc.), and it dumped many different months of source docs into the jun05 target folder, overwriting actual jun05 target docs of the same name.
I started fresh and things seemed OK until 2006. When I tried my first backup of 2006, I noticed the % indicator wasn't going. It signaled a successful backup, but in fact, nothing was backed up. Tried rebooting, remounting target, etc., etc. Just seems dead in the water in 2006. Don't know if the change of the calendar year is the cause or just a coincidence.
Prop Production's support forum is down with no explanation (pretty sad). Roxio is impossible to deal with on things they didn't write.
