Removes bloatware

Removes vital files along with bloatware

This program broke my 1 hour old laptop (hp envy) ran program under auto, bad idea onmy part i suppose but it is a bloatware removal program so i put fault on the devs, basically deleted ie which i thought not possible and wouldnt complain about if it wasnt the only internet browser i had on my new laptop. So i couldnt even go online to replace it. Also messed withmy wireless ireprably. Restore and all still didnt fix the problem. Im writing this review while i wait to see if a factory reset will do the trick but over all not even sleightly worth the download, just manually remove whats not important or this thing has the chance to 100% waste your time and possibly break your brand new machine. Id rate lower if possible, my reccomendation is to just steer clear of this, good in theory but i think application still needs much work sadly.

"Excellent Automated Uninstaller for Bloat and Crapware!"

January 30, 2014  |  By AirBoss24K

 |  Version: Decrap my Computer

- Provides ample warning of the risks associated with running the program.
- Doesn't pressure you into buying anything / no advertisements
- If you download directly from them (and NOT CNET) you're downloading just the program and nothing else. [Sorry CNET, I love your review system to death, but your installation policies are garbage and not the least bit user friendly like they used to be.]
- Makes a restore point before running the uninstalls! Excellent!
- Cleans up your registry once uninstalls are complete. I've read mixed reviews about the reliability of this feature, but mostly to the extent that it could be better and isn't terrible.
- Lets you choose which programs you wish to keep and which to purge.
- Provides you with categorized lists including start-up items, drivers, menu items, and third party software.

- Very easy to get carried away because programs like this catch just about everything.
- If your PC has some years under its belt (or even if it doesn't), you need to thoroughly check through the lists to ensure that the program isn't uninstalling your personal programs, third party applications, or drivers you might need.
- In some cases it's difficult to tell what exactly it's uninstalling. Computers often have manufacturer specific bloatware, so some research needs to be done to ensure that you're not uninstalling critical device drivers such as those used by a dedicated graphics cards, track pads, volume controls, wireless controls, etc. Despite being put there by the manufacturer, some of these items are important for your device to function properly.

This program is excellent and the developers seem like an awesome group of individuals, but I've deducted 1/2 a star for the following reason(s):

If you're not tech savvy, you may not know what should and shouldn't be removed from your device. The program (as do I) discourage the use of automatically uninstalling everything. You should select the options that allow you to have some say in what does and doesn't get removed. This process is slower (yet still eons faster than manual uninstallation), but ensures you don't uninstall items you may not have wanted to uninstall.

To credit this piece of software, running the automatic option will get rid of ALL items it considers to be unnecessary to run Windows and without you having to touch anything while it does it. While I wouldn't recommend this setting, it's probably a useful option for someone who's looking to start from scratch. I personally wouldn't want to have to go driver hunting and I can't imagine the number of dependencies that could possibly go missing, but someone might want just the basics! For everyone else, manually pick and choose what you want and what you don't for the best possible experience.
