David's Backgammon seems to be a no-frills game. Certainly, the graphics leave a lot to be desired. Even for backgammon, it looks very simplistic, with graphics that look more than a decade old.

However, the game contains a full set of options, covering the basics as well as all major backgammon twists. Automatic doubles, the Jacoby rule, and the improbably-named beavering are present and accounted for, as are the computer-only favorites of roll-over, best-move suggestions and an option to have the game announce the roll results. You can choose to play against a friend or the computer, and you can set up tournaments as well. The maximum cube value isn't predetermined, nor is the maximum number of doubles, and there are half a dozen skill levels to choose from, so you can adapt the game to your precise needs.

If you're looking for an easy-to-use backgammon game that really allows you to challenge your abilities, the depth of choices makes David's Backgammon a must for both backgammon lovers and newbies who want to learn how to play.
