Publisher's description of Data Eraser

Data Eraser screenshot
From Mike Toloo:

It is a program that allows you to erase the content of any file with the safest way possible. This program makes a given file unrecoverable by any data recovery expert or even the most hated spy agencies. This program writes to a given file several times using random binary numbers without deleting the file. They must remove the entire customer's data from their servers after a successful recovery. Computer users who want to erase their private and sensitive data files safely and permanently. Police department Freedom fighters Royal families, kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers. All the spy agencies like CIA, FBI, ASIO, and MI5. Average guys like you and I, who want to permanently destroy their data (any file type like document, picture, and database) Members of organized and non-organized crime.

Complete and easy-to-use internet security software for your PC.

  • Version reviewed: Data Eraser 07122005
This application scrambles the contents of your sensitive files, but the inconvenient DOS interface forces us to put it at the bottom of our list. Data Eraser securely removes data from your hard drive by repeatedly overwriting files until the original data is lost, but the old standard DOS environment is less than user friendly. The program quickly overwrites the files using a wiping algorithm that meets American and German standards. However, Data Eraser is too cautious as it prompts you twice before it overwrites files. The process didn't go as smoothly as we expected as Data Eraser only operates on files using the old DOS 8.3 standard file-naming format. Though Data Eraser effectively scrambled some files, we were disappointed by the DOS presentation and the need to manually delete overwritten files. All users looking for an effective file eraser would do well to skip this utility.
