Publisher's description
From DIY Datarecovery :iRecover is a Windows based, read-only data recovery utility. iRecover does not repair the damaged volume or disk. Instead it analyses the damaged source and rebuilds a "virtual file system" in memory. From this virtual file system you can recover data by copying it to an intact drive.iRecover offers FAT, FAT32, NTFS and (limited) Ext2 file system support. iRecover recovers data even if the hard drive's partition table, boot record, FAT/MFT or root directory are lost or damaged, data was lost due to a virus attack, the drive was formatted, fdisk has been run, a power failure has caused a system crash, files were lost due to a software failure, files were accidentally deleted.
Version 2.1 includes Linux Ext2 support, RAID 0 and 5 support, SMART monitoring, and File validation.

Version: DIY DataRecovery iRecover 2.1
Pros: I needed to recover a couple of files which I forgot to copy before re-installing Windows. This application did it quickly and didn't charge. The other applications I tried all found the files but wouldn't recover them without purchasing a full license

"awesome, and easy to use, cheap aswell. it was the only one that worked."
Pros: i have to say that i dont usually bother registering to write a review, but i felt compelled to with this one. it took a while but it recovered 300gb of music movies etc that died on my external HDD. it only cost 50 quid sterling opposed to the 600 quid max for other programs......no thanks. first software that i have actually bought in years. try the trial to see if it works and dont bother buying if it doesnt.
Cons: If you try the trial version first without the key then you cant save the scan that you just did. ie once you buy it you have to rescan the buggered HDD. no biggie, cause i got almost everything, so who cares. outstanding software folks. one happy customer.

Version: DIY DataRecovery iRecover 2.1
"Very very very slow - works, but be prepared"
Pros: Very effective in finding files, even ones that others do not. Uses SMART info from disk to avoid overheating. Works with BartPE for really dead systems
Cons: Painfully slow. Took 10 hours to do the analysis (disk has many bad sectors, so may be much faster on a healthy disk). I bought the license, but then it made me go through the whole thing again. I had saved the working set (the Save button), but when I loaded it again, it claimed there were no partitions. So, I had to go through the whole 10 hours again!

Version: DIY DataRecovery iRecover 2.1
"It did what it said it would do"
Pros: Intuitive interface; clear instructions; useful help files; a convincing trial version that convinced me to but the full product in case I have other horror stories of so called "experts" telling me that my data is unrecoverable.

Version: DIY DataRecovery iRecover 2.1
"Maybe it's good, but it doesn't work"
Pros: It works fine on Windows when recovering files from FAT32 drives.
Cons: When runned on Windows XP SP2 and Seagate SATA drive I couldn't recover files from Ext2 partition no matter what I tried. The program reports an error (it can't find valid Ext2 partitions ?!), although the partition is valid and Linux installed on it is working like a dream. To put it simple, THE PROGRAM DOES NOT WORK FOR EXT2 PARTITIONS ON A SATA DRIVE.
