CNET Editors' review
This utility proves to be one of the most powerful and flexible among erasers and privacy protectors. It has a handy interface: you can irrecoverably delete files using the right-click Explorer menu or by dragging them to the program window. Privacy Guard enables you to clean traces left in Windows (recently opened files, Run history), your browser (cache, cookies), and various applications such as ICQ and Windows Media Player. The most remarkable feature is that you can fully control which files and Registry keys are erased, as well as add your own items for deletion. CyberScrub uses several erasing methods, including quick wiping, NAVSO, DoD, and Gutmann, so you can find the balance between speed and security. The program also lets you create your own methods. You can define the number of cleaning passes and, for each pass, any overwriting pattern (byte or text, fixed or random); this is a rare capability for this class of software.
What's more, it's possible to shuffle the order of passes and verify the data has really been deleted. Happily, CyberScrub now offers a built-in scheduler so you can run time-consuming tasks when you're away from your computer. You can lock the program with a password so nobody can occasionally damage your files beyond recovery. CyberScrub is designed for professional use.

CyberScrub completely erases 'previously deleted' files, as well as providing secure deletion for removing current files/folders. CyberScrub also functions as a wonderful clean up utility by removing useless files (.bak. .chk, etc.) that slow down your computer. "Stay far, far away"
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
CyberScrub was once upon a time at the top of the heap of privacy software.
Cons
CyberScrub is now at the bottom of the heap.
Summary
Poor support, poor software, poor ethics, poor management. After years of using CyberScrub I moved on after it started going downhill. I wished I had moved on sooner!

"Not accruate at eliminating all traces outdated"
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
When Cyberscrub was first released this was a very good program for its time. But there are better choices out there. Cyberscrub is really good at wiping hard disk, and free space. But the interface needs to be more automated and updated.
I highly recommend Privacy Guardian by PC TOOLS, which is owned by Symantec and right now they are running a 30 day free trial. Also Pareato Logic seems more user friendly as well.Cons
This programs interface is outdated they keep updating the versions but no new interfaces. In my opion, they need to rewrite the whole program and bring in a more automated interface.
This leaves traces of your google searches and even PDF documents that were just open remain. This program takes alot of CPU power with its add on in privacy manager.
This does not wipe the MSN Tool Bar accurately nor does it wipe the MSN search bar of searches, and does not wipe autocomplete completely. This thing leaves a whole bunch of traces. I have not found the perfect Privacy software, but I do know this the Customer service is almost non existent and the Lifetime upgrade was a joke. This is an old clunky program, where the versions just keep getting updated, but in what 7 to 10 years no new interface or automation. They are just remarketing and old product that need some work as all products do.Summary
I have tried other Privacy suites and it seems they are much more automated at wiping documents, histories, and flash and media files. I ran Cyberscrub and when I opened my Adobe PDF file, my documents were right there on the start part. This program with Active Privacy guard slows down the CPU, and conflicts with Norton at times. It is not your PC it is Cyberscrub.
I personally switched to Privacy Gaurdian and this has a 30 day money back gurantee at the time of this writing. It is owned by PC TOOLS which SYMANTEC CORP now owns. It is a very good product and one click does it all. Also I like Pareato Logic.
Until Cyberscrub can eliminate the CPU sluggishness with their program and I am running and I7 950, this programs interface needs some automation, where it will search for the programs and clear all traces of internet browsing. It seems the only thing updated is the version but no new interfaces for quite some.
The core of the product is good, just outdate, go back now and design and whole new pacakage for 2013. This old style for 10 years is getting old. -
"OUTDATED INTERFACE CONFUSING and not accurate"
Version: CyberScrub 4
Pros
It is really good at wiping free space and previous deleted files and Index files.
It does try to clear the Broswer but not reall good. It leaves searches from Google and Google chrome.
I highly recommend a more active interface less CPU power, called Privacy Guardian by PC TOOLS which is owned by SYMANTEC and or even Paraeto Logic.,Cons
The interface, is old, it is the same interface from 5 years ago, poor customer service. Program does not wipe the search history bar or the autocomplete feature. This program does not wipe flash files or even recent documents. It leaves your recent documents with personal data on them in MS Word and ADOBE Files. When this program was first released it was great but to much needs to be fixed for 2013. This program needs some serious automation tweeks, and really does not eliminate the searches in the MSN search bar or tool bar. Does not clear the autocomplete nor does it, clear google search history accuratly.
Summary
Overall, it is not the most accurate at deleting your history or flash documents and or media downloads. This program takes alot of CPU power and slows down the connection with the other add on in Cyber scrub. It is a weight on the system files and computer files.
I personally tried a few programs, and while Cyberscrub has many features, I do not beleive it is the most accurate at elimanting the files in the Microsoft search bar and the tool bar.
I would recommend a different product, like Privacy Gaur and or Pereato Logic, read the top Ten reviews for 2013 for security and privacy software. It was time to to ditch Cyberscrub after 10 years. -
"Ripped off"
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
No pros at this time
Cons
My most recent beef is that I bought a new computer and needed to reinstall the Privacy Suite subscription I had recently renewed. I contacted customer service by e-mail and they responded with instructions as to what to do. Specifically, they gave me an activation key that does not work -- I am repeatedly told "No activations remain from this Key.". I have e-mailed Custoner Service repeatedly and they ignore my requests for assistance, keeping my money. I will never trust this company again. Caveat Emptor appears their business model.

"Company and Product are tragically gone"
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
I have been a loyal user of Cyber Scurb since 2000. I had a one on one relationship with the support manager. It was a product that always worked well and was updated and upgraded regularly. The support was freindly, knowledgeable and most important responsive.
Cons
None of this seems to be true any longer. I should have suspected something about two years ago when the software wouldn't work on various profiles of XP in one of our machines. It only worked on teh primary profile. My support person was dismayed that he couldn't get a solution to work and then ignored my calls and emails. I lived through it.
Now it on a Windows 7 machine I own, the software simply started requesting activation after working on it for 18 months. My calls have gone unaswered and voice mails have gone unreturned. I noticed that a ticket I created on the 1/2 was responded to with incorrect advice. The note stated my software was an older version and needed both upgrading and the subscription service. In deed I have 5.1.1.143 installed on all of my machines. That is the latest. I have never used the subscription services for antivirus since I don't use the program for antivirus protection. The agent never addressed my detailed problem.Summary
I agree with "brokenscrub". This seems to be a company that is in hibernation at best, and at worst no longer capable of providing the basic services required to be a legitimate software provider. I will now search for a new software solution. Any ideas are welcome?

"This company has gone tragically bad!"
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
CyberScrub USED TO BE excellent software. I purchased when you paid one large fee for lifetime use of the software and that was good, although it wasn't cheap. It was worth it and the software worked very well.
Then, they took away the lifetime thing ... that should have been my first clue.Cons
NOW, I cannot even get the software to work on my computers and if that weren't enough, although I asked them to discontinue the automatic renewal (that they didn't even advise me I had committed to!), it keeps renewing every year and I have to fight this every year.
Furthermore, I have several open tickets at CyberScrub trying to get help making the software work and not a single one of them has ever been answered. To this day they sit there on my account unanswered.
Once again I am here fighting another auto-renewal, even though I have repeatedly requested that the subscription be cancelled for the last two years. When I contact them they blow it off and try to send me to the site where there is no way to pursue the cancellation/refund of yet another auto renewal. Even though this supposed renewal does not take affect until February, they cannot manage to cancel it and I end up getting charged and having to pursue a refund from the method of payment.Summary
This company no longer provides customer support at all. They run these auto renewals under the radar and, although I am impeccible about paying attention to what I'm buying, there were NO clues that I was suddenly on an auto renewal. Once you are there, it's like being at the Hotel California. Good luck to anybody who can find a way to leave!

"Do not buy this, find something else."
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
Do not buy this, find something else
Cons
Updates lagging, still doesn't recognize RealPlayer 15...Customer service has always been pathetic and unresponsive. Tickets sit open forever, with no response or resolution. brokenscrub may be right..they finished off and just sell the same old thing while nobody's home. I think they left the building.
Summary
Do not buy this, find something else
Additionally, I noticed that Google Chrome 16 is not listed, either. Only up to 15. Again, looks like these guys aren't updating this product anymore.
Updated on Dec 26, 2011
Updated on Jan 14, 2012On 24Dec2011, I opened a ticket re the above mentioned Real Player 15 issue. Surprisingly, I got a response to my inquiry! On 5Jan2012, they wrote me, saying "We are working on it and we should release new definition files in about week's time. Thank for you your patience." Whoa..! Well, it is now Jan14th, and I still don't see it. BUT, I do now see Chrome 16. My settings are automatic update, so I can't say when it added this, but it wasn't there last month. Also, I just checked and they have Firefox 9, too, which I beleive is the most current version from the Mozilla website download.
Maybe someone there is reading our posts!! Hope so...! I have 6 months left on my subscription. -
"Used to be good, seems to be no longer in business."
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
If this were 2007, I'd say buy it.
Cons
Look at their website, go ahead, I'll wait....that's right, they haven't even added any news since 2009. The don't update their software even if you were to pay and download it right now. It won't work with any of latest firefox programs.
Look elsewhere for a cleaning program, this one is long gone until someone else buys the company and hires a team to update the software. -
"Waste of 59.00"
Version: CyberScrub 5.1.1.143
Pros
I didn't let them talk me into a worthless subscription.
Cons
Doesn't work on the last few years versions of firefox. When I pointed that out, they tried to sell me a subscription, even though the product was brand new. Turns out, even with a subscription the problem would not have been fixed and I'm already out 59.00
Summary
Don't waste your money unless you are only using explorer.

"very good especially risk alerts"
Version: CyberScrub 5.1
Pros
it cleans my pc as I want.and risk alerts are very helpful
Cons
parts of customer service are poor.I subscribe in the spring and need help to install c/s on pc in my summer home. My tickets are not answered and my emails are not answered. However when I telephone and get someone. I get all the help I need.
Summary
88087599944 I have had c/s for more than 10 years. Initially I spoke to David Wise who gave me his extension number and each year he hooked up my summer computer. Now I just dial the 700 number and press first button and ALWAYS get someone who is knowledgable and helpful and exceedingly polite and patients,. The most recent call (6/30) was the best of all because the individual took control of the computer and did all the necessary action to install the program on my summer computer. This was alot easier for me (a senior citizen) than trying to follow the myriad of instructions. You certainly are fortunate to employ such people. Without them I could not install the program
