PowerDVD version 12 Ultra is here, and it brings with it increased 3D support and improved playback controls. At the same time, it changes its game a bit by offering tools for organizing and managing all of your media across devices. Now you can use your desktop PC as a server for all of your content, and with PowerDVD Mobile, you can browse and play that content from anywhere.
PowerDVD's bread and butter has always been its movie playback capabilities, and with version 12 that hasn't changed. The program can still play DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and an impressive number of video file formats quite well. Some new additions, however, include playlists, the ability to zoom in on video, and 2D-to-3D conversion for Blu-ray discs. At this point, the conversion feature is pretty much a novelty, but that doesn't change the fact that it works considerably well. It even lets you adjust the depth of the graphics in case you want to see how eye-popping the 3D can get.
Beyond typical movie playback, PowerDVD 12 comes with dramatically improved syncing and streaming. Now it can act as a hub for all of your media content--videos, photos, and music--and can sync across your various PCs and Android devices via USB. Setting up your devices to stream over the network can get confusing, but once you figure it out, PowerDVD's DLNA keeps it working like a charm. It even lets you push media content from PowerDVD out to selected devices. This means that from your desktop, you can push a video out to play on your Android tablet and vice versa. Streaming to Android devices requires the PowerDVD Mobile app, which comes free with PowerDVD Ultra. Otherwise, the app costs $19.99 in the Android Market.
PowerDVD 12 also lets you view, share, and download photos from your Facebook and Flickr albums--something I haven't seen in any other multimedia programs. And finally, it comes with built-in access to the 7digital Music Store, which confirms my belief that CyberLink is making a run to incorporate an iTunes for Windows and Android into its software.
At this point, it seems like CyberLink PowerDVD is quickly outgrowing its name. Sure, DVD playback has been and still is its main gig, but the program is obviously creeping into other territories with its integrated social media features, streaming and syncing, and its partnership with the 7digital Music Store. Whether it's true or not, I'm all for extra features without the extra cost, and that's exactly what this iteration of PowerDVD offers up.
If you're looking for a premium, all-in-one media player for Windows, I highly recommend checking out PowerDVD 12 Ultra. It may not be as easy to set up as iTunes, but it has some power features that make it worthwhile.

"I agree An Awful Company"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
I work on my new computer with Windows 8 operating system, for a few months. It work for Blue Ray and regular DVD.
Cons
After a few months of working on my computer, I had trouble playing a regular DVD as well as a Blue ray movie. When I played a movie, their software would pop up. What they call there power DVD converter, would not support certain DVD or Blue Ray Systems that I was playing. When I try to close there converter, I had trouble playing or even stopping or pausing the video..
Summary
Save your money and buy a two in on one burner and video system called Nero. It's cheaper and much better then this Cyberlink Power DVD System...

"An Awful Company"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
None that I can see
Cons
Paid full price, worked for less than 1 year, now will not play BluRay discs. I am not waiting for 5 days for "customer service" to send me an individualized response/patch for PowerDVD 11 Ultra. Instead, I am downloading another product right now.
Summary
It is a scam. Do NOT use CyberLink. Ever.

"Its a scam"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
None. There are more options out there.
Cons
I have my computer in my room and on occasion, i like to watch blu rays.
Well then, you have to buy again and again. My PowerDVD came bundled with my blu ray burner from best buy. The software worked for a year than i was told that i had to buy it again? This is why people trade music and movies, this is why people pirate software.
As if the cost of the hardware wasn't enough. Regardless that it came advertising the software.Summary
Dont buy it unless you really like being ripped off.

"TERRIBLE - BUY SOMETHING ELSE"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
Version 9 worked well
Cons
Version 12 does not work at all with Blue Ray drives and my blur Ray player. Also very bugging. Support is complete BS.
Summary
This is the worse software product I have ever purchased. It is a bug ridden piece of ..... Support is non-existant and arrogant when you do get through. Don't buy version 12

"lack of support ruins otherwise good product"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
excellent software....when it works
Cons
read forums:
see forum entries @ http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/30/27179.page and http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/27140.page no support, no response, fixes only most current version and then a year later software stops working again!Summary
Seems like CyberLink is more interested in selling latest version instead of supporting one year old software

"Software conflicts"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
Worked good enough.
Cons
Caused severe start up issues.
Summary
Downloaded the software, restarted my system and watched a couple of movies. Shut my system down for the night and next day it wouldn't start up without running the diagnosis programs. This continued until I deleted the software from my system. Should have paid attention to the reviews an issues.

"Slow, Buggy"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
Works, came with my HP PC.
Cons
Bloatware. Hogs CPU and RAM. Just use Windows Media Center or a third party application that is not PowerDVD.
Microsoft is giving Windows Media Center out for free. Search on your favorite search engine. -
"Great DVD Player!"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
it works fine, and the UI is very user friendly! PowerDVD is the best DVD player I have tried so far. I might consider buying the full version in the future. I'm looking forward to the launch of the new version!
Cons
It is great for trial version!
Summary
I'm looking forward to the launch of the new version!

"Cyberlink Power dvd SUCKS!!"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
Sometimes it worked well.
Cons
They will stop updating the version you bought and make you pay for the next version every few years forever! If you want to watch a blu-ray or dvd made after the date they decide to stop providing updates for your version you will have to upgrade versions to view that material. The software was buggy. I wasted so much of my life trying to make their lousy software work that I want to warn the world. Do your self a favor and spend your 100 dollars on a real blu-ray player that will last a lifetime.
Summary
Run from Cyberlink!

"Stay Away!!"
Version: CyberLink PowerDVD 12
Pros
Absolutely none..
Cons
I upgraded from powerDvD 9 to powerDvD 12. Talk about bad software, this is the worst.. After installing PowerDvd 12 my window media player stopped working after crashing 3 times. I emailed cyberlink and was told to contact the laptop manufacturer(Sony). When I asked to speak with customer support cyberlink said it would cost me another $29.95 for "phone" support? This was on top of the $95.95 I payed to upgrade from powerDvD 9.
Summary
Install this crapware at your own risk, I have never dealt with a company this bad before. Frustration isnt the word when your dealing with people with one goal and that is getting as much money as they can from you.
