Cryptainer LE encrypts any file or folder on any media on any Windows PC. This free 128-bit file, folder, and disk-encryption software encrypts and password protects any file or folder. You can encrypt and secure data on removable drives, flask disks, CD-ROM's or any external drive, including USB and Pen. The application creates encrypted vaults within which you can store any kind of data. The program also lets you create secure e-mail files you can send to anyone. Cryptainer LE ensures complete security for your data. It creates an encrypted volume that can be accessed only with your password. Once mounted, the volume behaves as a standard Windows drive.

Version 5.0.3 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

This program offers a much more convenient interface than most encryption utilities, by acting as a virtual drive you can place anywhere on your PC. You can access encrypted drives and perform operations, such as copying, transferring, and compressing files from within any application. Also, Cryptainer LE makes it easy to hide all your sensitive information by letting you remove the virtual drive with a single click. You can run the application on any 32-bit Windows system or network with the assurance that its 128-bit Blowfish encryption will keep your data safe. Since the program lets you create self-decrypting executable files, you can send secure documents to anyone, even if that person doesn't have Cryptainer LE installed. The application didn't slow our system's performance during testing, though the free version creates volumes of up to only 25MB, which is still enough for working with office documents. If you can't exert much energy on file security, you'll find Cryptainer LE the perfect tool.

  "Fantastic User Friendly Encryption"

  Pros: Works great, at set-up change 10MB to 20MB and rename destination directory from default to something you can easily spot in the windows system32 folder, for possible retrieval or later add-on

  folders. Actually this version 5.0.3 is the same one I downloaded from snapfiles in the middle of Feb 05, didn't realize it took so long to get onto Cnet until after I downloaded it.

  Cons: No cons, just open the program and drag and drop what you want to encrypt into it.

  "You must have this utility if security is your priority!"

  Pros: I loaded Cryptainer Mobile on my USB jump drive and can run it anywhere. I keep my private files protected and I no longer fear the posibility of losing/misplacing my jump drive. Plus: This program is intuitive, zero learning curve. I also like that I can send encrypted data to people that do not have the software: self-extracting files are a great feature!

  Cons: The volumes created to store your data can still be erased or accidentally deleted, but this is no big deal. You should back up all your data anyway. If you need more than 25MB storage you can pay for a license... Two thumbs up in my book.

  "Caused boot up problems"

  Pros: Simplicity, Encrypted Security, large folder size.

  Cons: Worked for a few days then, computer started having boot up problems. Only would come up in Safe-mode. Computer booted up fine AFTER I uninstalled program. When reinstalled program, could not find my encrypted folder. Emailed support, never recieved an answer.

  "Pretty Good"

  Pros: Seem to work as advertised. Although I havent gotten to fully work it out yet.

  Cons: I dont like the file size limitation.

  "Similar to (free) True Crypt, but has size limatations"

  Pros: Effective, very easy to use. Portable. Can be used to protect files on USB memory drive. Files can be accessed on other computers without having to install the software.

  Cons: The protected "container" that contains the encrypted files is visable and can be deleted just using windows explorer, deleting all of the protected files it contains. There is also a size limitation on the free version. This program behaves almost exactly like a simple version of True Crypt, and open source program.
