Although this encryption application worked effectively in some of our tests, Crypt Works' small feature set lacks flexibility that competing programs can offer. The rather boring interface is uncomplicated and has four major buttons for encrypting files and folders. The program protects your data with a user-defined eight-character password, which serves as the default password for files you encrypt. It also allows you to create a Favorites folder where you can put files and folders to be encrypted. Unfortunately, it's unclear to us what kind of encryption method the application uses, making it difficult to vouch for how secure your files are. Crypt Works is also available as a Windows context-menu option, which is faster to use than the Start menu. In some of our tests, the program demonstrated speedy performance, but when we tried large files, the program became unresponsive and the encryption process halted. It's important to note that the program can't create self-decrypting files, making it a less viable option if you prefer sharing protected files with your colleagues. Still, users who need a simple encrypting tool might find Crypt Works a suitable choice.Publisher's description
From Mike D Card :Provides the client with the ability to encrypt and decrypt selected files, or folders, with the option of setting a favorite folder, sub folder encryption and file name encryption. For security, the client must enter an 8-digit password to start to use the application. For covert operations, an icon in the icon tray can be used to control encryption and decryption of the ""Favorite Folder"". The icon also permits the hiding and un-hiding of the main window as well as indicates the status of your favorite folder (green encrypted, amber - unknown, or red not encrypted). Files can also be encrypted and decrypted via any file context menu, by right clicking the files and then selecting Windows' ""Send To"" option.
