Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo aren't the only ones bringing more search power to consumer desktops. Copernic's Desktop Search tool makes it fast and easy to find documents, e-mails, and other files on local drives. Like other desktop search tools, it creates a searchable index of all the data on a computer's drives, and updates it every time a file is added, removed, or modified.
A left-side search column allows simple keyword queries and more refined searches based on file size, date, file type, or folder. Easy-to-read icons at the top of the screen let you limit searches by category, such as stored HTML pages, e-mail, and videos. The program is lightning-quick, displaying results as fast as you can type.
We especially like the Copernic Deskbar, a search window that appears in the Windows Taskbar and makes quick queries very handy. However, we would like an image viewer, and we wish the application's PowerPoint viewer could display graphics. Copernic comes with optional search toolbars for Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Overall, Copernic offers an efficient way to search your PC, especially for multiple or large hard drives.

"Great app, no privacy issues, interface could use some work"
Pros: As far as I can tell, the only reason this program accesses the internet is to check for updates (which you can prevent). It's a stand-alone app and doesn't need access to a browser [cough] like Google Desktop.
The indexing process completed quickly and searching is instantaneous. Indexing files were also small (ie efficient indexing).
Cons: You have to decide beforehand what kind of file you're looking for. You can't see emails, docs, etc all at once; you have to change the file class. This is done easily through buttons at the top, but I don't see why there can't be an option to have all results integrated, especially since the app tells you at the bottom left of the window how many hits there were for the other file types.

"Its Brill, so much better then yahoo and google's program"
Pros: i love it, its so fast and it dosent come with them added extras like google does with its sidebar which i personly wouldnt use at all, it dosent slow down the computer like the rest and anyone can use it including beginners

"A lifesaver and the best of its kind"
Pros: Speed. Accuracy. Flexibility. Has enabled me to find information that resided in files and e-mails from 5 to 10 yeares ago that I had long forgotten about. An absolute God-send!

Pros: Windows search utility seems to do the same. Don't get me wrong - copernic does a fine job too! But it seems a bit much when theres a search utility there already. Copernic does have a few twists and extras, but nothing that wiggled my ears.

"Often doesn't find files or messages that exist."
Pros: It does quickly locate files or E-mails that are relevant to the search. It allows you to specify file types you are looking for.
I tested almost all of the competing products and Copernic is the best of the bunch.
Cons: Frequently it doesn't find files or emails that relate to the search and I have to go to my file brouser or Outlooks advanced search.
It would be helpful if you could specify a date range or file location.
