Compete Toolbar for Internet Explorer measures and compiles community input on Web sites, but it offers little value for the average user. The toolbar is sparse, and some functions simply didn't display in our tests.

The toolbar offers a standard Search box that can pull information from one of nine search sites, but results aren't combined. Buttons include links to the Compete Web site and information about the current Web site. The information is collected by Compete toolbar users who allow the company to collect their surfing habits. Users see estimates of people visiting the site, their average stay, and pages viewed per visit. Also available online are the site's deals and its trust rating as determined by toolbar users.

However, in some tests, the toolbar failed to display the site information. If you want to help a company collect statistics and are into looking at site traffic data, this toolbar is for you. But short of the Search box, we found little in this freeware to truly benefit the average user.

Publisher's description

From Compete :

The Compete Toolbar warns of Web sites with spyware, phishing, and online scams, saves you money when you buy, and helps you discover new Web sites. The Toolbar automatically creates three SnapShot alerts: Trust Score, Site Profile, and Deal Light for every Web site you visit. These alerts lets users know if it is a safe site, how many people visit the site, and if there are any deals that can save them money.

Compete online metrics are leveraged by some of the largest companies in the US and often cited in publications like USA Today, Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Our trusted service partners include: GeoTrust (Verisign), CastleCops, and CouponMountain. Version 2.1.1.8 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
