Among the many file-comparison tools on the market, Compare Suite stands out for its ease of use. After a swift installation, the program launches to display an attractive, intuitive interface. You may not even need the detailed tutorial (though it's good to know it's there). Simply select the files or folders you want to compare, and Compare Suite displays their contents, highlights the differences, and provides a panel of statistics. Additional features include a configurable "skip words" list and the ability to compare ZIP, Acrobat, and MS Office files. You can't drag and drop files into the comparison windows, but we didn't find that a major annoyance. However, at $60, the registered version is not cheap, and developers may wish Compare Suite had the detailed graphical features advanced file-comparison tools provide. Nevertheless, Compare Suite is a reasonable choice for hobbyist programmers and even professionals, though probably not for hard-core coders.

Compare Suite can compare related as well as unrelated files. The By Keywords comparison feature highlights common and unique keywords, allowing you to compare unrelated files. The Word By Word comparison compares files with a common ancestor. If you work with plain text, you can edit compared documents and apply or decline changes. Finally, you can bring comparison details to simple or advanced structured reports.

Version 2.2.0.23 adds the By Keywords feature; the comparison of PDF, DOC, XLS, and HTML files; plain-text merging; and reporting.
