Though somewhat lacking in flexibility, this encryption software provides an easy method for locking down sensitive data. CleverCrypt appears as a small icon in your system tray. Clicking it brings up the tidy interface, which has large, clearly labeled buttons for most major functions. You simply choose the size of your secure drive, specify a password, and the encrypted portion shows up as a regular drive in Windows Explorer. To lock all your data from prying eyes, simply add files and close the drive. In our tests saving or copying files to the secure drive didn't take longer than moving them to a normal one, though we did think the program takes up too much memory when running in the background. The application gives you options for resizing your drive and changing the password, but we really would have liked the ability to take the secure disk with us on a removable drive. We also can't vouch for just how secure CleverCrypt is, since the program doesn't specify which encryption algorithm it uses. Therefore, while we wouldn't recommend the app for use with top-secret files, we believe it offers strong enough security for most everyday users.
From Quantum Digital Security:
CleverCrypt allows you to create a completely secure hard drive for your confidential and sensitive files. Simply create a secure drive using CleverCrypt, then cut and paste files into your new drive. Your files will be automatically encrypted, ensuring total security. The instant you save data into a CleverCrypt drive, the application scrambles the data before it is saved on the drive. Once you close your drive or turn off your computer, your secure drive is automatically locked.
