Chipmark combines a bookmark manager with basic social networking capabilities to offer global access your favorite links. You'll have to sign up for a free Chipmark account, which may be more than you're willing to give.

Chipmark installs easily through Firefox's standard add-on process to add a File menu option. The menu is limited until you create a Chipmark account. The quick process only requires a username, password, and valid e-mail address. The Chipmark site presents options to import and export bookmarks, add a new bookmark, and manage your list.

Pulling bookmarks from Firefox, Netscape, or Internet Explorer takes just a few easy to follow steps. There's no way to select which bookmarks are added--it's all or nothing. Bookmark management is performed online, in a setup that resembles a standard e-mail program, complete with folders and an i-nbox. You can choose to display bookmarks to other Chipmark members or keep them private.

Logged in members can use the Chipmark browser menu to easily bookmark or send a page, view their in-boxex, and see recently added Chipmarks. You can send Chipmarks only to other members, a restriction we didn't care for. We were disappointed in the great number of spam ads in the recent Chipmarks list. Rather than joining a sharing community, we felt we'd tapped into a huge spam folder. With no method to specify language preferences, users must surf pass many foreign language links.

We love social networking as much as the next Internet junkie, but this wasn't a value-added community. Chipmark is free, but it won't impress experienced users.
