- Version reviewed: CheckSystem 5
Striving to appeal to those looking for a basic system monitoring tool, this program doesn't overwhelm users with a multitude of features. CheckSystem Pro's basic button and listing interface resembles your favorite spreadsheet application. Experienced users will quickly pick up program operation and novice users will appreciate the helpful wizard.
CheckSystem Pro gracefully monitors disks, directories, applications, CPU usage, system services, files, Web sites, log files, TCP/IP connections, and disk fragmentation levels. Using the wizard to create a monitoring job is quick and painless. If a monitoring job sets off an alarm, this application will execute or terminate an application, send an e-mail, or a direct message to a machine on the network. Even inexperienced users will find setting up options and e-mail preferences is easily done.
CheckSystem Pro doesn't require a great amount of overhead or CPU cycles, but some testers reported occasional difficulty saving profile information. Nevertheless, this application is a solid, though basic, example of the monitoring genre. The 14-day trial show prove adequate for a thorough program test.
