"Crashes, crashes and more crashes."

November 20, 2014

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 8.4.4.1859

Pros

-Looks very good
-Works on some computers
-Auto-recover feature

Cons

-Crashes all the time
-Can't work with big files
-Too slow
-Doesn't work on most computers
-Terrible-looking results
-Almost never renders anything big correctly
-Horrid screen recorder [Bad sound quality, absolutely no syncing, and laggy footage]
-Demo only lasts a month
-Slows down and crashes when doing simple tasks like raising audio volume
-Costs $300!!!!

Summary

Don't get this. It's a bad experience with horrid results. It, also, only works when you're doing astonishingly simple tasks with the program. I have a great Windows 8, 1 TB memory, 6 GB ram, AMD Graphics Card Computer and this almost never works well on it.

"On of the best solutions for creating screencast videos"

July 15, 2014  |  By Anne_S

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 8.4.1.1745

Pros

- Allows to create, edit and share screencast videos
- Easy-to-use
- Multiple editing features
- Nice tutorial to help one master the software

Cons

I'm not sure if it's still not fixed, but when I used it a while ago, I had problem working with big files. It would close up unexpectedly, and I was on the constant look-up for pressing the save button.

Summary

I've tried several more similar tool, but should say that Camtasia definitely rocks. Highly recommended! It's desktop, and it costs $299 (one-time fee). The cost is pretty high, yet if you create videos regularly, you're likely to feel that it's good value for money.

"Great Software!"

April 29, 2014  |  By Algeroch

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 7.1

Pros

1) Fantastic screen recording, I lose absolutely 0 frames when I record
2) Easy to use editing
3) Uploads directly to YouTube quickly

Cons

LOTS of errors. I know it's good software, and I would definitely recommend it, it has too many errors. Just today I tried to record my webcam, and got "An unexpected error has occurred. Capture cannot be started". I have searched for answers and typically could not find any. Sometimes when I edit clips they crash the software and then I lose sometimes hours of hard work.

Summary

It is fantastic, however the errors and bugs and crashes really need to be ironed out. Also, the price is about £200 - Jesus Christ! It is a shame when I try to use it and it either crashes, lags or doesn't work. And if you reply, don't say I mush have a bad computer, I have one of the best computers going.

"Works great with almost anything."

March 15, 2014  |  By alexmonte

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 8.3.0.1471

Pros

So far I have been able to record and edit almost anything I needed to. It works perfectly with all but one program I have. I have been able to edit just about any video file. Better than any other editor I have found.

Cons

Sometimes it will crash but usually you can recover your work. The only program I cannot record is GTA 4. I have tried EVERYTHING I could find to get it to record it and ended up having to use OBS instead to record GTA 4. Other than that, it works like a charm!

Summary

Very few problems and it works well. I have yet to have found anything that works better.

"Excellent package for academic & business presentations"

January 01, 2014  |  By CNET-W4CHL

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 8.2.1.1423

Pros

- Fantastic support, both from live people and forums supported by TechSmith

- Wide variety of tutorials for Camtasia Studio, both on the internet and in many colleges and in many companies for many uses

- Excellent add-ons to recorded presentations via hot spot link "callouts" to web links, closed captioning, or interactive quizzes

- Good stable of associated products which work well with Camtasia Studio especially SnagIt and ScreenCast

- Large following in businesses that create short multimedia "YouTube advertorial" style presentations

- Excellent integration with PowerPoint for quick capture of the audio and video which allow creation of true indexed presentations usable as online reference material

- Even CS8 output that includes

- Professional license is not bound to one PC, though it is a "single user" license.

- simple to export entire working session (CAMPROJ + all current working files), so easy to move a project to another machine for rendering

Cons

- updates are only available as a complete reinstall image, though settings are preserved

- using the more advanced features of CS8 such as interactive quizzes requires rendering using a custom Adobe Flash output that requires a true file server to host a "folder" created by the CS8 rendering tool

Summary

Other reviewers have featured the standard multimedia video capabilities in Camtasia Studio, this review includes some of the capabilities that we found valuable in producing educational and business partner videos.

Though university I graduated from (and one my daughter currently attends) have limited academic licenses available, I chose to purchase an indvidual pro license that I could use for my personal and professional use in 2011. I am glad I did! At the time I purchased Camtasia Studio 7 (CS7), but at a time when Camtasia Studio 8 was being previewed and was a no cost upgrade. There have been some growing pains with Camtasia Studio 8 (CS8), but the current 8.2 release seems to have stabilized and all major features I seek now have more function and are as fast or faster to render as the old reliable CS7.

I am especially impressed with the support I have received over these past 3 years from TechSmith. With one exception they have been able to provide a fix, or pointers to a fix for my problems within at most 2 days.

The licensing of the Professional level package is great! I am the only user on several PCs, and have CS8 installed on my laptop but also on a backup laptop and a home machine with more memory (12gb) and faster processor (quad core vs laptop dual core) so I often render on the faster machine after syncing the exported directories.

"Can't Import MTS or AVCHD Video"

December 11, 2013  |  By stejayVA

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 8.2.0.1416

Pros

Sweet, smooth editing interface.
Great tutorials.
Multiple output formats with HQ encoding

Cons

Cannot directly import MTS or AVCHD format videos!

Summary

As a prosumer-level video producer, I was keenly disappointed that Camtasia does not permit the direct import of MTS or AVCHD video, a standard with many mid-range Sony and Canon HD video cameras.

A search of the TechSmith knowledge-base shows this issue has been known for at least 3-years, with promised made of adding this functionality, but alas, no action taken.

Full thread here: https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/mts_files?topic-reply-list[settings][filter_by]=star_promoted

Hence, if you record source video in either of these formats, be ready for an extra, time-consuming step (transcode to AVI) if you wish to use this otherwise very nifty program!

"Great program, I can see myself probably buying it."

March 03, 2013  |  By KnockKnockItsFloyd

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 8.0

Pros

*Software works really well, comparing the audio recording to Audacity, it just blows it out of the water. It records both mic audio and incoming sound from the computer(I.E; Your guitar from mic, and playback from backing track from computer sound, instead of just speaker).
*Screen recording records smoothly. Didn't have any issues with it at all.

Cons

*Couldn't get webcam to work with it/crashed program, but that's my fault for using the very iffy PS3 Eye cam as a camera. Use a proper camera/web cam with this program and you will be fine.

No other issues what so ever.

Summary

All in all, its a great program which you get to try out for 30 days to see if you like it. That's 30 days of unlimited professional-grade videos you can be making.. anything from gaming videos to music videos to vlogs.. and the interface allows you to move **** around like in xsplit..

You cannot go wrong with this, and I'm seriously considering putting cash out for it considering that most other programs are hella expensive and do less/hard to learn.

"Meh, a waste."

February 25, 2013  |  By AyameJay

 |  Version: Camtasia Studio 4.0.2

Pros

Records in HD (choose custom select area and make the dimensions 1280(w) x 720(h), which is 720p HD), recorded inputs,

Cons

• Price,

• I didn't understand how to export as video (I found out eventually, but they could make this more obvious... To export as video, add the recording file to the timeline then click produce and share, click the drop box and select the one you want. If you want HD then click MP4 only (up to 720p),

• Gray blotches in video.
Okay, this is why I gave it such a low rating! Gray blotches show up in the video. They don't go away, I guess it was because I was moving through the screens to fast..? But anyway, if these are in the way nobody can see my video!

Summary

I had a bad experience.
