From Leithauser Research :

Saves energy if you have a CRT monitor by blacking out portions of the screen that are not in use for 10 seconds while continuing to display any running programs. The blacked out area returns to normal as soon as you move the mouse over it. This reduces energy use with CRT screens, because light areas require more energy to maintain than dark areas.

This is not true of LCD monitors, so this program should not be used with LCD monitors. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.
