From Recovery ToolBox :CD Recovery Toolbox Free was developed for recovering damaged files CD, DVD, HD DVD, Blu-Ray and etc disks. You can use it to restore information lost as a result of some mechanical damage of the disk (scratches, chips, different spots on the surface) or as a result of incorrect recording. Program can recover data that was considered lost. Software distributed as freeware.

"works great in Vista, if you can see the file"
Pros: The program recovered files I thought were lost. It worked great.
Cons: It took its time, and could've used some more cosmetic display to show what it was doing. - but it worked!

Pros: Well, it's free and a very small download if you want to give it a go before you spend money on another programme. Nothing nasty happened to my computer after I downloaded it and there is an uninstall option.
Cons: I downloaded it to try to recover lost photographs from a DVD but I couldn't even get started with it as it was not at all clear how to get it to read from my external DVD burner. A non-starter for me. I ended up buying BadCopy Pro which solved my problem in minutes, and which I wholeheartedly recommend as being well worth the money.

Pros: Had some trouble to read/copy files from somewhat scratched CDs/DVDs with an old DVD drive, the process always stopped with a CRC error. I tried CD recovery toolbox and really was surprised it worked very well. It's free, easy to use and perfectly did what I wanted. Best rating!
