Bulk File Changer from NirSoft is a little program with a lot to like. At just over 68KB, it's a very small download, and it runs without installation, so it's totally portable. It's also free. You can use it to create lists of files, even spread out over multiple folders, and perform various functions on them en masse, such as changing the date and time they were created, modified, or last accessed; modifying file attributes such as Hidden or Read-Only; and cutting, copying, and pasting in Explorer.

Bulk File Changer's interface and controls are basic but efficient and extremely easy to comprehend. The main display is a list view displaying our selected files categorized by size, path, time, and so on. The interface displays all categories by default, though clicking Choose Columns on the View menu let us change the order and remove unwanted entries as well as add grid lines and select the Tool Tips feature. The only option on the Options menu is to display GMT instead of local time. We added some files to Bulk File Changer, which you can do by browsing, dragging and dropping, copying and pasting, or adding multiple files by specifying a file path in the wild card option. Clicking Actions/Change Time/Attributes called up a dialog that let us specify date ranges as well as change the file attributes of all our selected files simultaneously, and quickly, too. Selecting Execute Command On Selected Files in the Actions menu let us type in an executable and command-line parameters to run a program or process on multiple files at once, a very handy feature for processing large numbers of files automatically with third-party apps. It's also very handy to be able to copy, cut, and paste files all at once in Explorer rather than directory by directory.

Bulk File Changer is so compact that the app is the same size as the compiled Help file, 39KB. It obviously doesn't need to be any bigger, and it makes us wonder why any comparable tool would need more code to do the same job this little tool does so well.

    "love BULKFILECHANGER"

    January 20, 2013   |   By almoarr1

    Version: BulkFileChanger 1.22

    Pros

very easy to use, even a kid will know how to use it,just be concentrate in what you are doing, always check whats markd and what you are going to do.remember what you did last time you closed because it will be the same way it was, when you open it again,
The first time you use it uncheck GMT time because it will give you England Time in your photo or file in the metadata that you are changing (TOO BAD IT CAN NOT BE OPEN IN YOUR LOCAL TIME) i use both bulkfile changer(for all types of files) and exif date changer (only for photos)

    Cons

there is this BUG or i do not know what is it, but for example if your file,Photo or mp3 or even a URL file the CREATED its 6 min 11 seconds the MODIFIED it will be 6 min 12 seconds it will always will give you an EVEN numberIN MODIFIED it will never will give you an ODD number you always will see this disparity specially if what you want to fix its the CREATED portion of your file, even if you substract one -1 second wont work
TOO BAD IT CAN NOT BE OPEN IN YOUR LOCAL TIME

    Summary

Great APP and it works with all kind of files i recomended the only problem will the MODIFIED portion will be EVEN NUMBER,just bring the file with your mouse into the BULKFILE and change what you need to change and wala use it specially if you have date line works from school or work

    "Didn't work correctly"

    January 19, 2012   |   By The_Vanguardian

    Version: BulkFileChanger 1.20

    Pros

Small, unobtrusive and somewhat does the job.
Quick for a small handful of files.

    Cons

Kept setting the creation date to the day before I asked it to.
Didn't affect the "picture taken" date from my Sony camera.

    Summary

I got a new camera and forgot to set the date before I took pictures.
I had Christmas pictures and it now is a month later. The first time I tried, the program decided to set the correct "date modified", but not the correct year. The second time, it came up with the correct day and year. But with the "date created" every time I tried to set it to Dec 24th, it would set Dec 23rd, it would also change the time even though I didn't ask it to.
My pictures also have a "date picture taken" from my Sony camera, which this program didn't have any provisions to change.

    "Works well"

    December 24, 2011   |   By elvidgeg

    Version: BulkFileChanger 1.20

    Pros

Small size; does not install on your system; works well. It is useful to un-set the "T" attribute of files.
Image files received from WLM (messenger) have the quirk of setting the "T" attribute. If the received filename is subsequently changed, then Windows Search will no longer find the new, renamed image.
Using BulkFileChanger to reset the T attribute is one method of making the files searchable.

    Cons

    no apparent problems

"It does a terrific job at changing the dates of files."

    August 24, 2011   |   By cookshack

    Version: BulkFileChanger 1.10

    Pros

It does a great job at changing the three types of dates of files - Created date, Modified Date, & Accessed Date. And, it will allow you to do a "bulk" change of many files at one time. Plus, it's very intuitive and easy to use.

    Cons

I did not find any "cons."

    Summary

One date I wish it would change is the "Date taken" on jpeg files, which are the digital photos that I have taken. Somtimes I forget to make sure the date is accurate on my digital camera, and the Date taken is wrong, and I'd like to be able to change it. However, the program does a terrific job even without that feature. One other feature I'd like to see is when you are changing many files at one time, is to be able to sequence each consecutive file date to be perhaps one second greater than the file prior. This way all the dates are not the same, which would allow you more control over how the files are sorted in a folder. I would be willing to pay for the program if it had those features. However, since it is freeware, it is a really nice program with the current features it has.

    "Very nice!"

    May 09, 2010   |   By Penpusher

    Version: BulkFileChanger 1.01

    Pros

    Small, simple and efficient.

    Cons

    None that I noticed.

    Summary

I was looking for a free file date changer and saw this recent addition to CNET which stated it was also for Vista and Win7 so thought I'd give it a try. I'm on Vista Home Premium and it worked just fine for me.
It's not necessary to install it into Windows, so a simple right-click and 'Pin to Start Menu' of the programs .exe file was sufficient to access the program as required.
You can select, or drag-n-drop the file or files you want to work on into the BFC window - highlight them - and then change the date created, modified or accessed (and the time - to the second) as required.
You can change individual files, a few files, or all your selected files at once.
The file attributes of Archive, Read only, Hidden, or System can also be set to be Turned On, Off, Switch or No Change as desired.
There are one or two other capabilities such as running 'Commands' on selected files, but that was more than I needed so didn't explore it.
For what I wanted I found it small, simple to use and very effective. Just what I was looking for!
