This filtering application offers parents control over surfing activity on up to three PCs, though it lacks some features. Brightfilter is basically configurable on the publisher's Web site but only after relinquishing your e-mail address. When you click on the icon it places in the system tray after installation, you'll quickly be guided to the publisher's Web site. Filtering can be set up based on individual user profiles to restrict access to harmful sites, instant messaging, P2P file sharing and it even blocks spyware. You can essentially block sites according to URLs and list sites to which access may be granted. Brightfilter requires each user to log in once the browser is launched and you can set time limits for PC use. However, unlike a lot of parental control utilities, this one doesn't offer any monitoring features. Even so, this 14-trial application is a good choice for simple control of online access.
