"Efficient and Dependable"

May 19, 2014  |  By mcgdenis

 |  Version: Bookpedia 5.2

Pros

Bookpedia is a handy piece of software that organizes your library efficiently with good search engines, import capability and a reasonable price ($18USD). Their rapid and courteous customer service is an added bonus. When the library software I was using on my iMac was no longer being updated as OS 10 moved to maverick I was severely hampered and faced with the possibility of re-entering my data since sample versions of other book inventory software were unable to import my old extensive data. Voila along came Bookpedia, which filled the bill saving me endless days of tedious input and cost.

Cons

No negative responses.

Summary

Reasonable price, outstanding customer service and efficient handling of data.

 |  Version: Bookpedia 4.6.2

Pros

This product really does what it says it will do! Books can be sorted, in any way you might want. A great way of keeping track of what you have.

Cons

My one real gripe is that I cannot get it to transfer the info to my iPod Touch or iPhone. This really needs to be dealt with....!

"It Works"

This user of BookPedia & DVDPedia run a Church Library with about 2500 titles. We have all the issues associated with a Library operation in micro form. This software package and the support we get from the developer meets all our needs. As it is a Mac program teaching our volunteer staff how to use it is easy. Bottom line here is for anyone needing to run a small library operation like a Church library this will fit the bill. I am in Ontario Canada. Do a google search, it make take a couple of tries but I can be found if you want to talk.

"Fast, reliable, and customizable "

 |  Version: Bookpedia 4.4.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I started using this program when I first switched to a Mac 2 years ago, and have had nothing but a terrific experience with it. I tried both DL and Bookpedia, and found that Bookpedia was far more reliable and flexible for my use. I recently [April 2009] received a copy of the latest DL as part of the latest Machesit and found that I was still better served by Bookpedia.

As a humanities professor, I like being able to use smart folders and the columns to organize and tag my books. Additionally, the ability to export titles for bibliographic use is outstanding. I have also made good use of its ipod syncing capabilities--which have only been made better with pocketpedia which allows you to sync to iphones and ipod touch. [Something promised in future versions of DL.] This lets me keep track of everything I already have and everything I am looking for and helps me to comparison shop with updated prices for new and used items. I could really go on and on about the terrific customer service as well. But shouldn't you just go and see for yourself? You won't be disappointed!

"Lifesaver! Saves days of manual entries!"

This app is awesome in the truest sense of the word. It works great with my Canon Alura 100 attached via Firewire but even faster if I enter the ISBN # from the keypad.

The search feature is extremely fast and checks an array (cascade) of sources including the Library of Congress. Being able to "correct" entries to fit our needs is perfect! Now our 1000's of books are once again at our fingertips.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I waited forever for "Delicious Library" to be updated and finally bought this instead. Shouldn't have waited for so long: This is a brilliant application, with lots of different options/sources for information import and huge variety of export templates. Neat!

"This is a phenomenal piece of software!"

September 26, 2007  |  By MarkSealey

Summary

These people really do know how to program!

The new version - a pretty major upgrade, adding useful and sophisticated functionality - is actually free to existing users.

On installation it seamlessly updates your data - then continues to provide the best set of features, is the most reliable (never any crashes etc. Never), and looks the most elegant of all such software.

Only complaint - it's worth over twice as much!

Thanks, Bruji!

What's new in version 5.0.2
    New:
  • When viewing an ePub file the arrow buttons in the Details view now work for navigating through the file.
  • Last name sorting for multiple authors now goes two authors deep. For more authors the full string is taken into account.
  • When sorting multiple authors by last name, the string with fewer names is sorted first.
  • Last name sorting takes into account Jr. and ignores it.
  • No longer removes hard coded tags from export templates when they are turned off in the details view display.
  • Automatic page break added for printing now has a class name of "pageBreak" for CSS styling if necessary, such as page numbers with the CSS counter property.
  • Help button links added to the preference tabs: Fields, Sites and Autofill.
  • Last selection is now stored in the plist file for better DropBox support, to avoid modifying the database when only browsing.
  • Help file now includes an exact list of fields that are contributed to Doghouse.
  • Typing a letter to arrive at the index point on the sorted column takes into account the "sort" field if it's being used to modify the sort order on the selected column.
  • Search text is now placed in clipboard for copy/paste into the add manually window after a failed search.
  • Collection listing leaves item view selected when changing collections to allow for use of keyboard shortcuts on items.
  • Plug-in menu additions now also appear in the contextual menu for an entry as well as in the main menu.
  • Fixes:
  • Doghouse searches with 10 digit ISBNs ending in lowercase "x" could fail to find results.
  • Bug fix: Collections were not re-sorting after editing an entry in the edit panel and changing the currently sorted field.
  • Bug Fix: Creating a new database defaulted to show the save panel window inside the current database folder instead of Application Support.
  • Bug fix: My Rating in FancyIndex template now sorts correctly.
  • Bug fix: When adding a new item to a smart collection where it does not match, the wrong cover would be displayed for the selected item.
