BitMeter II offers users a real-time look at their Internet connection. This in-depth tool may appeal to those who are obsessed with performance, but will remain a mystery to casual users.
This free program downloads in the form of a small box that gives a rolling reflection of your computer's connection. This comes in the form of a graph, looking much like a heart monitor or Richter Scale measuring tape and being about as difficult for laymen to read. However, if you have the knowledge, this is a great way to hold a magnifying glass to your Internet connection. Users can set up alerts when there are specific increases or decreases in speed and volume. In addition, users can run reports to see what performance looked like (in numbers, not in a graph) for the day, the week, or even the last month of usage.
The two biggest faults we found with BitMeter II were its display and its appeal. The real-time meter has no numbers to express what the spikes on the graph actually mean. So even if a less experienced user wanted to learn, it is very difficult to get a handle on what's going on. This ties in to the program's appeal: it is almost exclusively for users with a depth of Internet connection knowledge. If you fall into this category, BitMeter II can be a great tool for monitoring performance. If you are a casual user, BitMeter II will almost certainly be confusing.
Publisher's description
From Codebox Software :BitMeter 2 is a small bandwidth meter, that allows you to monitor your Internet connection with the help of a real-time graph that shows your upload and download speed over time. It offers long-term upload/download history to track your usage over time, as well as customizable speed and volume alerts. It also includes a download time calculator and a download stopwatch. The small graph can be placed on your desktop as a floating window or in click-through mode.
Bitmeter 2 is a bandwidth meter, it allows you to visually monitor your internet connection by displaying a scrolling graph that shows your upload and download speed over time. If you spend a lot of time online, especially on file sharing networks such as BitTorrent, Kazaa and eDonkey, then a bandwidth monitor is almost indispensable - giving you real-time updates on how effectively your connection is being used, and alerting you to any problems immediately.

Version: BitMeter II 3.5.7.17278
"It does what it's designed for."
Pros: A tiny neat little screen that can sit anywhere on your screen shows you how well your internet connection is working. It showed me that the download and upload speed was much higher than my uTorrent was displaying and using.
Cons: None so far.

Version: BitMeter II 3.5.7.17278
"Gives an instant view of usage"
Pros: Easy install, reasonable memory footprint, I like click-thru mode where it is displayed in foreground in varying degrees of transparency. Stays visible unobtrusively.
Cons: none really, it does the job.

"Perfect for those isp bandwidth limit caps!!!"
Pros: Easy to set up, like that it comes it GB and that it starts up on Vista!
Cons: Not so easy to set up for daily bandwidth caps. Have to set up your own limit, and every once in a while it resets and all my history is gone.
Summary: I recommend it to everyone that required it to monitor bandwidth usage.

Version: BitMeter II 3.5.7.17278
Pros: A feature rich app. in such a small package. It installs easily from a zip file. Many options to choose from so you can configure and customize this tool to your own preferences. BitMeter doesn't require the Yahoo Widget Engine to operate.
Cons: A little high on RAM usage, about a maximum of 35 MBs. when reading speed while downloading or uploading. Requires Microsoft's NET.framework 1.1 or higher to function which isn't really a con if you already have it installed.
Summary: I guess I'm a bit of an information junkie when it comes to what my computer is doing and this nifty little app. is a great addition to my other monitoring tools. Just what I was looking for to monitor my bandwidth usage. It will also keep tabs on y... read more >>

Version: BitMeter II 3.5.7.17278
Pros: Seems pretty accurate, it's FREE. Able to minimize to the sys tray, only uses about 30k of sys resource. Free of virus, spyware or adware, I scanned it with TrendMicro and Avast, and checked site with McAfee SiteAdvisor and WOT, all came out clean.
Cons: None that I can see after several days of use.
Summary: My main use for this app is to get as accurate of a reading as I can, for the speed of my WAN (cable co. guarantees 16Mbps) and my current 10/100 LAN, also to test my upcoming gigabit LAN soon. Found out both my hardwired cable WAN (22 Mbps) and LA... read more >>
