Version: BinaryBiz VirtualLab 5.5.9
"Restored our webserver's files. No complaints here."
Pros: I downloaded the software today and ran it on a damaged hard drive. Our webserver crashed overnight and we lost tons of data from MySQL and many photos that were stored on it. Rather than trying to get all that data back from our remote backup facility (as it is many gigs), I ran the software and it looks to have found all the files that are not visible to me now. I can't even get the drive to mount. hmm.
When you attempt to recover, it says that you don't have enough credit to continue. The have a free link so I tried that and it walks you through a form and asks you basic questions which gives you the ability to get 100kb of credit to recover something at no cost.
I decided to to try the free "quota" as they call it and recovered a photo. Worked great. I also found out you can preview all the photos in a viewer, all without paying. Now I have a better comfort feeling about this. All the photos I tried (about 40 all show up). Unfortunately for me, I have to pay to get them, but I guess I'll take the plunge.
I really could not see the MySQL data because it was a really large file, but all the other files seemed ok. I clicked the purchase "quota" link and was offered a few different levels of quota purchase. I opted for 100GB of quota for $300. They also have an unlimited quota. It also says that quota is valid for 30 days.
I went through the purchase process which seemed easy enough and it has lots of frequently asked question answers along the way which was comforting. I wasn't sure why you couldn't just purchase the software outright, but hey, if it does the job, so be it. (they do seem to have a subscription model that lets you keep your quota longer) but I didn't go for that.
After I purchased, I was given an activation code which I entered into the program. It loaded my "quota" and let me save the files. The MySQL data loaded up just fine.
I give this program 4.5 stars if i could, as it works really well.
Cons: I tried the demo and the product is much different than others. It requires an internet connection which worried me about the data. After I checked with their support department they told me the reason is for the quota and no data is sent over the internet.
