    "You're on your own"

by znutarx on March 12, 2009

Pros: I got a few photos back

Cons: They tell you up front that they're not there to help you and they mean it.

Summary: Let's face it, by the time you've decided that you need data recovery, you're data is probably corrupted, and they tell you up front that the thing to do when you have a problem is to stop using the computer because you're screwing up the data still... read more >>

"Heed the warnings and avoid this company's products!"

by JamesFr on April 25, 2006

Pros: It may actually recover something. That's about it.

Cons: This company is only interested in taking money and not about providing a good product or service experience. In my case, due to confusing purchasing and registration procedures, I ended up double purchasing the amount of quota that I needed. When I tried to contact them to explain this and ask for a refund of the extra purchase, they basically told me that was my fault, that I was an idiot, and that they do not offer refunds to anyone for any reason. Note that this was after about six attempts to even get a hold of anyone. I had to call my credit card and have them retract the double charge (which they did). However, BinaryBiz still tried to claim a restocking fee of almost forty dollars. This is ridiculous because it is an Internet service and they use tokens to enable access so there is not restocking fee. The company is basically crooked. They put on a good show to get your business but have a rudimentary and expensive service. If you have a problem, they will not listen to you. They have no interest in the customer and could care less if you ever come back again to them again for repeat business because they have a constant stream of new customers who are unaware of their business practices. While I do not have evidence, I suspect that they write their own positive reviews to lure people to their product and service. After a completely horrible experience with them, I told them that I was going to post a review of my experience. Laughably, they threatened to sue me if I did. I of course told them it was a free country and I have a right to share my experiences with anyone I wish. It was at this point that I discovered that they are not a US based company. This probably explains why they are difficult to get a hold of and why they appear to get away with their shoddy business practices. Finally, their service is a huge security risk.

"Watch out for hidden or undisclosed fees and terms!!! AWFUL!"

    by terminus2006 on April 18, 2006

Pros: 1) Software finds lost files from deleted partitions.

    2) File names are restored to original condition.

    3) Easy to use

Cons: Terrible usage terms. Watch out! They will take your money, and if you don't finish the job in 48 hours after buying a quota of disk space, you are screwed!

    General Comments

I have been happy with the software performance. I have a BIG problem with there terms of use (renting software) and the process for getting your money back from unused quota.

Here's what happened. After a hard drive failure, my second drive lost it's partition table. I didn't touch this drive and started downloading software to see if it could find my data. BinaryBiz's software found the lost files. You "rent" their software. You buy a quota from them to restore what they find (they find the files for free). I bought the quota (6GB, $125) and restored what I needed. I took my time selectivley restoring data, ultimatly finding it on other drives on my network. I had 4GB remaining on my quota. I took my time (multiple days) to do this. What I didn't realize was that BinaryBiz only gives you 48 hrs to restore your data! (terms of use at bottom of email receipt after you purchase). I didn't see the limitation after purchasing. Their software client does NOT warn you that your session will expire and you don't receive an email that the session will expire!!!!!! I am so upset. They charge you %20 fee to reactivate session. I tried 4 or 5 times to get Customer support to just refund my remaining quota, but they won't do it unless I spend additional $. If their software warned me, or if I received an email, I would have requested a refund almost immediately after using the product so I wouldn't be screwed. I'm now at the point that I want to file a complaint with BBB to complain about the lack of notification of session expiration (poor customer interface if you ask me, I wrote something for a bank that notified you of upcoming significant events like your bill due, and it really helps the customer).

    "I recommend it..."

by starstruckd on April 29, 2006

Pros: Well, it worked good for me. I lost a file (it just dissappeared) and the program found it and recovered it, pretty quickly I might add. Well worth the investment, I saved about 30 hours of time by investing 30 minutes and $100 into virtuallab.

"Ripoff artists. Take your money, act in bad faith even when they're at fault."

by Aratsubo on April 18, 2006

Pros: The product is actually very good, when it works. Unfortunately, you won't know if it works until you pay for the full recovery, which is non-refundable if even a single byte is recovered.

Cons: It's a shame that this company is so awful, because their product is actually very good, when it works.

You pay for recovery by the gigabyte (you purchase "quota"), and their terms of service says you can use unused quota on another session later. Unfortunately, what it DOESN'T say is that you can only do that by purchasing Quota on their PRO software. I needed to recover 1 gigabyte of data, and figured I would save some money by purchasing 20 gigabytes of Quota on their Classic software ($195 or 20 gigs versus $99 for 1 gig).

This was a BIG mistake. I found out I couldn't use the Quota on other systems (contrary to what it says in their purchase agreement: "Unused quota, if any, can be used on another Session at a later date, by renewing the session."), and they told me via email if I wanted to transfer my quota that I needed to send $75 via Paypal to their webmaster's email address. I was trying to deal with them very calmly and rationally, but they have no one you can talk to by telephone, and when I tried to escalate my problem because my error was due to THEIR documentation's misstatements, they blocked my email address and ignored me!

Binarybiz.com's office address is actually a Mailboxes, Etc. box in Colorado. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company and the charge was finally reversed in full. I have been told by others that have received partial refund that the company is insisting that 20%-40% of the charge is absolutely non-refundable due to a "restocking fee"... A restocking fee for an intangible item? Outrageous.

So, all that said, if you use this product, buyer beware! If you run into any issues or misunderstand their confusing, contradictory, or misleading information, you're on your own. Worst of all, NO REFUNDS if you use the product to recover a single byte of information, and even if your Quota is completely unused, refunds (if processed at all) are subject to a 20% processing fee.
