Consisting of two optimization applications, FastnPlay made little difference on our test machines. FastnPlay Lite's simple 10-button interface is a lesson in poor design. While some buttons are obvious, such as the question mark for help, the majority are not explained. Hovering over a button doesn't give a tool tip, and there is no program help or online explanations available.

Three buttons actually power FastnPlay Lite. Two optimize your system for ASDL or LAN use. Our testers found little differences in speed that could be attributed to this program's help. Executing a button gives the user no idea what changes are made, and the reset button doesn't describe what was reset.

Installing the included FastnPlay Pro version takes only a few seconds. However, the program immediately looks to the publisher to upgrade. Installing the newer version is also quick but unsatisfying. The problems of the Lite version remain. There are additional optimization options, but they also failed to boost the performance of our test machines. With little trouble you can create accounts to maintain separate optimization profiles. Users would want the Pro version if they have dial-up connections or multiple users with various connection needs.

Summing up our experience with both FastnPlay versions is easy: they made little to no impact. Neither Lite nor Pro is an acceptable option in the crowded connection speed optimization genre.
