Publisher's Description
From Jetico:
With BestCrypt you allocate a portion of free space on your drive where you keep sensitive data in encrypted form. This creates a virtual drive that you work with as you would any other drive. BestCrypt uses strong encryption algorithms, including Blowfish, GOST, and DES. Features include a time-out option, hot keys, a wiping utility, the ability to add your own encryption algorithm, support for Windows XP, swap-file encryption, and a hidden container.
Version 7.1 includes improvements in the hidden-container feature and enhancement of the procedure for encrypting swap files.

"Simply outstanding"
Version: BestCrypt 8.23.4
Pros
Easy to use and convenient; superb security of your sensitive files; can work with your files as if they are in a regular folder on your PC.
Cons
Mounting and dismounting of huge containers (20 GB or bigger) used to cause a blue screen crash in rare cases. This hasn't happened in awhile, I guess Microsoft fixed its Windows OS.
Summary
I have been using this program for over 15 years and can't recommend it strongly enough.

"Good but costly if you have several computers"
Version: BestCrypt 8.21
Pros
Encryption software has to have one characteristic: must be totally reliable. I've been using it for years and never had a glitch or lost a file.
Cons
Their licensing has gone up to $58 per computer, so with 3 computers I'd be paying over $170 for new or about $90 for upgrades (annual) so it gets a bit pricey. Thinking of switching if can find as good a product for somewhat less.
Summary
Excellent reliability, pretty easy to use, but they don't give you a break if you've got several computers to use it on.

"Product great. Service lousy"
Version: BestCrypt 8.20.6
Pros
Bestcrypt creates encrypted "drives" that perform exactly like physical drives until they are dismounted. It's very easy to use, and over many years of use I've never had any problems.
Cons
I bought an upgrade through Jetico's website. 12 hours later I still haven't received the license key. Their sales and technical department have ignored my emails. My credit card has been debited, but so far no product.
Summary
Great product. Lousy support. I woudn't recommend anything from Jetico.

"Best you can find in encryption programs"
Version: BestCrypt 8.06
Pros
Most comprehensive, Safe for your data (used it for a year now and no issue at all). easy to use, great design. I have tested all of encryption softwares available (spent months doing so) on the Web and this one is by far the best.
Cons
Rarely, it is difficult to dismount a drive,so you have to shut down the computer to do so, but this is no big deal.
Summary
If you are looking for a safre reliable encrytion softwares, do not waste your time. I have done a long and difficult homework as i am very picky about security. just go with this one. IA good free one is True Crypt which is 2nd best from what I have seen, but this is really the best. If you have also done some homework and have any better program in mind, I would love to hear about it. My email is dagdoog@excite.com. I would love to hear from you.

"One of the best encryption utilities available"
Version: BestCrypt 8.05.5
Pros
Secure, Easy to use, very stable and fast. Works transparantly.
Cons
Once subsription expires, not even bug fixes or minor updates are allowed.
Summary
I have used many encryption utilities. I prefer Bestcrypt because of its ease of use and security. You simply create an encrypted virtual hard disk, use your password to mount it and then read and write to it just like any other hard disk. It is very stable and fast with very low memory consumption. Support is good when in the rare event it is needed.

"genuinely secure - copy files to a container file drive"
Version: BestCrypt 8.05.6
Pros
on winXP pc I created a container file thats mounted as a drive, copied to a UNIX box, and used strings command to search container file for password, and searched whole of C: drive (win search inside files), and registry - could not find it
Cons
if you want to copy the container file between home and work, you need to have admin rights on work machine, so you can install bestcrypt program to mount the container file - there may be a way around this I've not explored yet
Summary
I am an IT professional (a UNIX / Linux systems administrator), and in my opinion this s really is VERY VERY good apart from the small con above - I cant understand why the planks in the british governement don't use this to make their files secure when they send out disks with peoples information on, (which they then lose)
I tried "folder lock" before, and found I could actually access files that were in a "locked" folder if backing up the folder with acronis, or copying to unix - but bestcrypt has none of those drawbacks - I am going to buy the full version of this product.
I have yet to search the C: drive with the unix strings command, as I am, not sure that the windows search utility searches for text inside non text files
I will post again if I find a problems with that
great work, thanks! -
"Very good and stable product"
Version: BestCrypt 8.05.5
Pros
I've using BestCrypt since 2002 - no even a simple problem so far. It keeps data
even, if OS crashes - extremely good thing. Other thing is that managing data is
easy - just drag-and-drop files into an encrypted drive. I keep all my files this way.Cons
Nothing, so far.
Summary
I indeed feel that my data are protected and I sleep well. :-)

"used it for six years"
Version: BestCrypt 8.02.2
Pros
I have not experienced any of the negatives of the other reviewers. I have used this on win2K/XP and linux, it works flawlessly. It stores all your data in a single file, which it mounts as a drive. You don't have to bother encrypting/decrypting files, it will prompt you at boot if you want, otherwise you mount it with the control panel. Sure, if others have access to your drive they could see th .jbc files, but who cares? You have your choice of encryption techniques so that others can't get access. works flawlessly even cross platform. Awesome. Mount multiple files as different drives. Copy the files to other computers, mount them without problem.
Cons
I have honestly used this for six or seven years without problems over many, many computers, and I paid for the shareware fee. No negatives from me it is worth it.

"Trial Period Expired"
Version: BestCrypt 7.20.2
Pros
Easy to install and uninstall - one star for each.
Cons
I wanted to create a secure USB drive.
When I attempted to make a new container I received the message that the trial period had ended. This was less than one hour after I downloaded and installed the demo.

"Good program, but don't bother"
Version: BestCrypt 7.20.2
Pros
BestCrypt is a very solid program, with a good interface and a very solid encryption level. The user interface is well designed, and the support for hidden containers is a nice feature.
Cons
Don't bother with it, though. Use TrueCrypt instead - it's free, open source, and does everything bestcrypt does and more. BestCrypt requires installation and is a pretty sizable program - Truecrypt can be run off of a USB key. Bestcrypt requires a specific extention - Truecrypt does not, thereby increasing plausable deniability. As I remember, BestCrypt does not support the use of keyfiles - Truecrypt support is fast and easy. Both have support for hidden containers, but TrueCrypt's handling of container-in-a-container is implemented far more successfully. And best of all - Bestcrypt will cost you a pretty penny - Truecrypt is completely free. Bottom line, this is a good program, but there are better alternatives out there.
