Hiring a professional computer-security consultant is out of reach for most home PC users, but Belarc Advisor can fill part of that gap.
The app analyzes a machine's weak points, looking at elements such as whether antivirus software is up to date, or whether all the security flaws in Windows have been patched. It uses the Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmark test to give the computer a score showing its overall security level, and produces a report that can be viewed in a Web browser.
Not only does it analyze software and operating system components and tell you where problems are, but in its comprehensive report it tells you what your computer's physical components are: not just how much RAM you have, for example, but what kind of RAM and which slots are occupied.
This program doesn't fix the problems itself, but gives clear advice on how to address each issue. This download is free for personal use; we recommend it to home users as a first step in securing their home systems, or for those considering a hardware upgrade who want to see what's in their current system.

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2.24.3
Pros: Contains all my license keys as well as hardware and software information.
I run it from time to time and have useful license information and reminders of the software I need to re-install if I need to re-load Windows. Good tool!

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2.24.3
Pros: Really checks all programs, updates, etc., on your computer. Would have given it 5 stars, but I do wonder about an unsecure listing of all of my programs on the web. This happens after the scan. The web browser opens and there is a full report on everything on the hard drive, plus extra private info.
Cons: I wish that the results shown on the browser was on a secure site.

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2.24.3
"A very good general assessment of installed software."
Pros: Gives a comprehensive 1 page summary.
Cons: Its not a " 1-click fix " repairer.

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2.24.3
Pros: Provides an analysis of your software, very useful for keeping on top of all those tempting new programs downloaded on sites like download dot com, notifies you of missing M/soft updates and provides links to download them from, rates your security settings
Cons: There is a new version available, CNET is very slow in providing updated versions these days for some products, the new one has been out since 14.05.08(UK date style) and today is 18.05.08, it's really important to have security update info asap. Belarc releases a new updated version just after the latest M/soft update 'patch Tuesday', usually the next day at the latest. Best to be aware of when 'patch Tuesday' is(2nd Tues of month) and any other major M/soft updates, rather than rely on Cnet for info on new Belarc Advisor versions.
Apart from that I can't think of any cons for Belarc Advisor itself.

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2.24.3
Pros: Very informative, maybe to the point of being a little scary when you get the results and find out your score. Brilliant program, and free.
Cons: Not truly a con, but it would be nice to have the program offer some solutions to the problems it says you have. Interface could be a little more graphically interesting, but this program is more about function than form.
