Hiring a professional computer-security consultant is out of reach for most home PC users, but Belarc Advisor can fill part of that gap.
The app analyzes a machine's weak points, looking at elements such as whether antivirus software is up to date, or whether all the security flaws in Windows have been patched. It uses the Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmark test to give the computer a score showing its overall security level, and produces a report that can be viewed in a Web browser.
Not only does it analyze software and operating system components and tell you where problems are, but in its comprehensive report it tells you what your computer's physical components are: not just how much RAM you have, for example, but what kind of RAM and which slots are occupied.
This program doesn't fix the problems itself, but gives clear advice on how to address each issue. This download is free for personal use; we recommend it to home users as a first step in securing their home systems, or for those considering a hardware upgrade who want to see what's in their current system.

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2
"Easy, understandable, and important"
Pros: There are programs that can tell you all about your hardware, but this gets into the software. When I first used it, I thought I had everything up to date on my computer (windows updates, and security updates), however it warned me that I was missing some important security updates! I don't know how much of a difference it makes with or without these updates, but microsoft makes them for a reason, I suppose. It also lists all of the programs you have on your computer, which is kinda cool. Also it pops up in your browser so you can click on "details" and go directly to microsoft's site to see whatever update you need.

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2
Pros: The program get's a lot of data from your system and advises you about the possible security flaws. Also it gives you comprehensive information about your hardware and software.
Cons: Having your windows updated (with patches from microsoft) doesn't count for everything. My system got a low mark for not being updated, though i have antivirus antispyware and all the other security programs.

Version: Belarc Advisor 7.2
Pros: Simple Install, simple to keep up to date, and great system infomation provided in a great format - and best of all it's free.Running a Small Computer Reapir business I install Belarc for ALL of my customers. It's a great time saver.
Cons: Yes, I could still create a wish list... maybe add a registry cleaner and provide dynamic links to manufacturer websites to provide easy access to updates and such...
Maybe add some benchmarking ability and a compare/contrast option for saved reports.
