The latest addition to the Battlefield franchise may be the strongest showing yet. The front end has been vastly improved and streamlined with faster load times, an easy-to-navigate-interface, and windows and options that make sense.
Gameplay has always been strong in Battlefield games and BF 2142 takes it even further. Vehicles have been improved, including a hovering tank with strafing capabilities; a troop transport with the ability to fire yourself in a pod to your opponent's Titan mother ship; a heavily armored walker; easier-to-fly aircraft; and a jeep that lets you hit the nitrous oxide for quick speed bursts. The weapons offer the same realistic feel of older games in the franchise, but with futuristic changes that add to overall gameplay. What's more, you can mix and match weapon sets such as machine guns or sniper rifles with items like C4 or First Aid. You can create virtually any type of soldier using a retooled drag-and-drop interface. Possibly the biggest addition is the new Titan gametype in the already popular Conquest mode. Gameplay is similar to Conquest, but the added requirements of capturing missile silos and blowing up your enemy's Titan changes the strategy completely.
We found Battlefield 2142 to be an excellent addition to the franchise. We particularly like customizing our ideal soldier and the addition of new vehicle types with cool options. Also, front-end fixes make it much easier to find and connect to online servers. Fans of the Battlefield series and anyone who appreciates a solid FPS game will love the demo, assuming they have the bandwidth for the massive download and the firepower for the high system requirements.
Publisher's description
From EA Games :The year is 2142 and the dawn of a new Ice Age has thrown the world into a panic. The soil not covered by ice can only feed a fraction of the Earth's population. The math is simple and brutal: some will live, most will die. In Battlefield 2142, players choose to fight for one of two military superpowers--the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition--in an epic battle for survival.
Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech weaponry, including assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will also take control of the most lethal vehicles known to man. Massive Battle Walkers wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When taking on this futuristic armor players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of new hi-tech countermeasures like EMP grenades and smart mines to level the playing field.
