Using profiles to define where and how to back up files isn't a new idea, but Backup-2006 Studio jazzes up the concept with innovative and useful features. The Backup Set Map feature, for instance, provides a graphical representation of backup profiles and their destination folders. You can use the map to modify backup sets and quickly change the target locations for multiple profiles. The program comes with predefined backup sets for Outlook as well as for Windows settings and the Registry, and you can create a new set from existing ones. The interface is nothing special, but we like how you can run the program in Beginner, Standard, or Expert mode, queue up tasks, and search a catalog database for details of each backup job. The program offers encryption and three compression methods for saving data to FTP locations or CD and DVD burners. Overall, Backup-2006 Studio's strong functionality ought to make it attractive to business and power users.
