Several years ago, BS.Player used to be one of the better multicodec free video playback applications around. It then started to be bundled with adware, popularity dropped, and other programs took up its slack. BS.Player returns now with a free version, a new interface, and new jukebox capabilities for video and audio.
The interface loads as a refurbished skin of the original dashboard, and you can even reskin the it back to its original look. Track name, length, and time elapsed are front and center, and clicking on various features, such as the elapsed time, cycles through display options. Note that the Menu tab is hidden until you mouse over it. Player controls live at the bottom, and a tab of gray options on the right expands to reveal further options for Video, DVD, Audio, Radio, and TV playback. Three circles marked ML, PL, and EQ toggle the detached Media Library, Playlist, and Equalizer panes.
The installation process checks your system for missing codecs, although you have to opt out of a BS.Player toolbar. We had no issues drag-drop-and-playing various Real, Quicktime, AVI, WMV, and MPEG-formatted videos. Also note that the new Media Library window owes much to iTunes. There's not much you can do about that, since the included skins only change the look of the dashboard. BS.Player lacks modern ancillary media functions such as seeking out album art, but you can configure ID3 tags natively. If you're feeling nostalgic for a stable media player with a familiar name but updated look and features, you can be bullish on BS.Player.

Version: BS.Player 2.40.997
Pros: It worked on windows 7(of coarse so does the new vlc)
It doesn't have spyware, malware, or a virus like others have postedCons: It has a pro version which means every time you start a video you get a disclaimer stating you cant use this product for commercial use which is really annoying
The picture quality doesn't seem as good compared to other playersSummary: The only reason i tried this is because kmplayer(my favorite player) doesn't work on windows 7 yet and the bsplayer was a huge disappointment. The default rendering engine did not work with Aero making me change it right away which is a pain.

"Light and reliable media player"
Pros: Light weight, plays everyting, it downloads subtitles for movie automatically
Cons: Sometimes it gets crashy. Will change your home page in browser and add a toolbar, unless you deselect them in installation process
Summary: Neat little player, which will play every file, even those difficult m2ts AVCHD videos from my digital camcorder - my default multimedia player for all of my video files!

"***RUINS COMPUTERS! MALWARE ADDED AFTER CNET REVIEW!***"
Pros: NOTHING!!!! IT HAS RUINED MY COMPUTER! I HAVE WASTED 25 HOURS TRYING TO GET MY MACHINE TO WORK PROPERLY. NOTHING HELPS. NOT ANTISPYWARE, ANTIVIRUS, REGEDIT, FIREWALLS, UTILITY PROGRAMS, NET RESEARCH. 'Tech Support" is a TRAP. Un+reinstall USELESS
Cons: 1ST, read the "Pros" comments I wrote; they are precursors to these: B.S. Player hijacks and infects your browser. When you type in a URL in the address bar, you go to B.S. Player's search engine, not your chosen one...then YOUR COMPUTER FREEZES,
Summary: CNET got PLAYED by these con men.
. After CNET reviewed this malware, B.S. Player changed the code. As detailed earlier, B.S. Player will hijack your browser and your computer will FREEZE every single time you go to every single web page...or... read more >> -

"Can't get rid of it completely"
Pros: Frankly, I didn't keep it around long enough to find any pros. The interface was a bit funky for my taste, as was the annoying search page is automatically defaults to.
Cons: Annoying search-type page comes up when typing in an incomplete URL into my browser's address bar. Type in CNET and this is what you get: http://search.conduit.com/ResultsExt.aspx?ctid=CT1750559&q=cnet. Can't figure how to get rid of it either.
Summary: If you don't mind the very-annoying BS search page coming up constantly and the unnecessary "funkiness" of this player interface, you'll be all set. I don't care for either one, so that's why I don't have any use for it. A player that, even when r... read more >>
