I have used this product since Peak version 4. I realise the current comments are focussing upon ver. 6 - but I must comment that I have used Peak, during live gigs, I have used it to master down to CD mix of my music, and currently I am using ver. 6 to master my weekly national radio program. Peak is a great product and the support is A1. I have had no issues with the current version. While I am currently upgrading to an iMac Core Duo, my current G4 handles peak 6 well, and believe me I am running too many top end apps and it tends to grind to a halt - but no issue with peak. I do use a variety of plug-ins and they have presented no problem. I do believe there is a small issue with the response of the metering - it does appear to have a small lag - but overall I find it hard to fault. If you are long time user of Peak you will find the interface not dissimilar to previous versions - which for a new user can be confusing (even overly complex), but like many pro apps it's a matter of diving in and using it over and over again. Suddenly it does make sense.
For my radio work, I have found the simple addition of the 'ducking' feature to be very useful. It was a pain in the butt previously in regard to layering voice overs, now it's a breeze. I love the seamless interface with Soundsoap Pro, which together make for a great suite for reviving old vinyl and cassette recordings, therefore it's great for archiving old material.
So in summary, I have used it professionally on stage, in a music recording studio and as the main tool for radio program production. I will continue to use it. I can't comment on why others are having problems - except to say it becomes necessary to keep your system uptodate and run utilities and programs like Techtool Pro (and other such programs) regularly. I have found that oiften minimises issues of program/plug-in crashes. -

Unintuitive interface, spotty manual, but worse of all are the bugs. I had to stop using Peak because it was costing time. Not to mention how it looks for a client sitting in a session and watching us deal with this thing. It looks bad.
I'm using Soundtrack from the Final Cut Studio suite. I can get more done in less time without having to be paranoid about crashes. -

It seems that v6 is just a little more sensitive to third party add-ons than previous versions. Thanks to the excellent tech support from BIAS, we were able to solve the issues I was having, First, Default Folder (a great app in its own right) is not compatible with Peak. Adding Peak to the DF exclusion list solved the cursor problem. The crashes were caused by Hear (by Joesoft), a trail product that I thought I had removed and is a known issue. I had to run the uninstaller to get rid of it thoroughly after which everything was fine in Peak which now gets a 4 from me. I can't give it a 5 because of the bumps in the road the newly induced sensitivity caused. Still, Peak is a great app. -

I have been using Peak for years and have loved it, but this version is so unstable as to be unusable. Constantly quitting unexpectedly, cursor becomes unresponsive, level meters respond before the file even reaches the waveform, most of the extra software doesn't work correctly and it is generally a huge disappointment. This despite a clean install and removal of all old preferences, etc, on a system that otherwise behaves flawlessly. If a fix is not forthcoming within days, I will be asking for a refund. -

Forgot to mention that it's actually less expensive than what is listed here because BIAS sells through resellers instead of only direct. A lot of the software these days is only sold direct and there's no competition� â?? the price is the price. With BIAS, and a lot of pro audio software companies â?? you can buy it direct at full list price ($599) or through resellers â??� typically around $499. And what I didn't mention before, was the fact that Peak Pro 6 includes a really cool DVD with extra plug-ins worth over $300! One user complained here that BIAS doesn't listen to their users, but I beg to differ â?? they added about 10 features I personally requested (ok, it was probably more than just me, but still, they definitely listen). Hey, but don't take my word for it, contact them yourself....

I have to hand it to BIAS on this one â?? Peak 6 rocks. I've used previous versions going all the way back to version 2 and version 6 is by far the best audio editor I've used. I've used just about every audio editor out there â?? from former shareware apps to wanna be pro editors â?? and by far, Peak leads the pack. The sound quality is stunning and until recently I didn't realize it was due to the high quality SRC. I love the new playlist, dithering, looping and additional plug-ins. The new version also includes SoundSoap which is great for noise reduction and I'm definitely going to take BIAS up on their latest upgrade offer to go to Peak Pro XT. I've just mastered my band's CD and when I contacted the replication plant, they requested I deliver a DDP file set. Thankfully, the XT version includes this â?? along with killer plug-ins. There are certainly some cheap audio editors out there, but they lack the features and high quality DSP. There's something to be said for a product that has over ten years of experience and so many professionals using it. Thanks BIAS for hitting a home run with this release! And for those of you who can't afford the Pro edition, check out LE â?? it's under $100 and well worth the price. Their support is also great â??� they actually pick up the phone and return voice mails...what a concept!! As for authorization, I don't know what people are whining about â?? you get two authorizations which can be used on up to two machines at a time. It's similar to iTunes so you can remove an authorization if needed and if you lose one, like I did when I had a mother board failure, I just contacted BIAS and they reset my authorization count â??� I did have to contact them, but once they knew I was legit, it was no problem. Nice guys too who really do have a passion for audio and the users they serve. -

Still a lot of bugs. Some of them still hanging around from version 4.14.
Interface has issues. Strange icons. Space wasting tool windows. Windows and palettes still get buried. The best interface I can think of is Final Cut Pro. If that is an A. Then Peak is a D.
I've been using Peak since version 3, TDM. I keep hoping it will improve, but it doesn't. -

mostly crappy... pretty buggy & starts to crash regularly. not the best interface, it doesnt look very professional to me. I have lost plenty of work due to instability with Peak. expensive too, but it does have some noce features. DSP Quattro may be a better choice. I wish Soundforge was available for OS X really -

Peak 5.2 is very-very buggy on my MacBook. Markers disappear when highlighting a section in reverse order, saving doesn't work if you open the file in column view, but worst of all - it quits randomly, and unexpectedly for no apparent reason. I have no plug-ins other then what came with it, I'm not even using those, just adding markers in a stereo document, and it crashes. I give up on using Peak 5.2.x Peak 4.x always worked great, but this new version is apparently a rushed to market beta version of the application.
This is the worst thing Bias has ever put out. Maybe eventually after we test it for them, they will release a stable professional application. I work in ProTools and the difference is night and day. That app works perfect, no anomilies, never ever crashes.
