Avidemux is a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. It supports many file types, including AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF, using a variety of codecs. Tasks can be automated using projects, job queue and powerful scripting capabilities. The program was written from scratch by Mean, but code from other people and projects has been used as well. Patches, translations and even bug reports are always welcome.

Version 2.4.1 R4145 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

"Crop for free"

Making simple crop edits to videos of all formats shouldn't be tricky business, but most tools out there either do way too much or are so belabored with ads that who knows what evil lurks within their code.

Open-source on the GNU license, Avidemux is a breath of fresh air. Cropping a video is as simple as selecting the section you want to remove and then hitting the Delete key. Re-encoding a video is equally painless: select the output format from the drop-down list, save the file, and you're good to go. When choosing where to start and stop a crop, there's both incremental and multisecond advance and rewind tools, There's also a not insubstantial list of video and audio codecs that files can be converted to. Video formats include multiple codecs for FLV, MPEG, AVI, VCD, H.263/4, and others, while audio formats include MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, and one or two more.

The program also includes advanced options, including generic decoder and post-processing tools, user-defined filters, GlyphSet adjustments, and more features. Avidemux should appeal to users of all abilities who are looking for a quick way to edit down video files.

Pros: Could not find anything I liked

Cons: Can not convert into any format from AVI.

"Good to have, and it is FREE"

Pros: Good software, allows me to cut down movies and convert between formats.

Intuitive, easy to learn.

The selectors and skip to next frame, makes cutting the movies down very easily and precisely.

It is FREE, so it can't hurt to try this one out.

Cons: Converting between file formats takes some trial and error. However, I didn't read any of the documentation or look online or anything.

"If you aren't a pro this freeware will fulfill all ur needs"

Pros: I don't know how this software turned out to be free.
It works terrific. The only problem is there are no help files included so it is difficult to figure out at first.
Anybody having problems should look at its online documentation which is quite exhaustive.
