From Bobyte Software :AviSplit Classic is an application for cutting and rejoining AVI and DivX files. AviSplit Classic can split a large AVI file into more convenient pieces (you set the size), rejoin those pieces, or extract a clip with a specified starting and ending point. Whether pieces or a clip, AviSplit output can be viewed in any standard player, and when the pieces are recombined, the result is exactly the same as the original.

"Very specific, AVI use only. Not for anyone looking for video editing software."
Pros: It;s interesting to be able to split the AVI's into many different parts, separate files... but it doesn't seem to have any practical use. Worked well as a companion to my download of Freez Screen Video Capture.

"Only works on AVI's that I don't have"
Pros: It's free
Cons: The program can't process AVI video file written in Type-1 AVI and ODML AVI format. All the dozens of AVI's I have that are produced by my digital camcorder are in ODML format. I don't feel like re-encoding those AVI's just to split them, so I'll use another tool.

Version: AviSplit Classic 1.42
Pros: Simple intuitive interface. Everything seemed to work ok, but I did not take the time to save a file. Seemed to handle a large format (760x544) fine.
Cons: I need to cut at an exact frame. There is only a slide control, or pause or play. Manual input into the time/frame index is not allowed, nor is there a frame-by-frame advance.
