  Version: Avant DVD & DivX Player 1.25

  "Beware Hidden Issues"

  Pros: I liked the idea of the screen capture.

  Cons: Well, it turned out that the screen capture is only available with the registered edition even though it said it was available with the free edition. That issue plus the fact that it came with spyware prompted me to uninstall it. No sooner had I uninstalled it and rebooted when I started getting a message from Norton telling me it couldn't scan email because my internet connection was not functioning properly--I was annoyed at first at Norton wanting to scan email when it wasn't running so I ignored the message at first. Finally I realized that my dsl wasn't working. I had to go into the dsl help and reset my settings from an earlier time to get it to work again. The best I can figure is that since the spyware with Avant had to be uninstalled separately--when I uninstalled the spyware it disabled my dsl by rewriting the settings. I've never had that happen before and I download and uninstall tons of programs--testing them. I've gotten lots of spyware that way too but they have never effected the DSL settings before.

  "STAY AWAY!!!!"

  Pros: absolutely none!!!!!

  Cons: SPYWARE SPYWARE SPYWARE

  This comes bundled with so much garbage, you'll be sifting through it for days. It immediately installs a searchbar on your computer, and a great deal of spyware. It wouldn't even let me delete the stuff! I had to run an antivirus to get rid of the trojan, and an anti-spyware (adaware) to get rid of the rest of the junk - after manually going into the folders and deleting whatever files it would let me.

  DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS SOFTWARE. I don't know why download.com even allows this junk on here - save yourself the hassle, and get a better program, spyware free!

  Pros: NONE!

  Cons: This program is a total virus and includes spyware. CNET is not spyware free like it claims! I had to reinstall XP because of this, it killed CMD.exe and my internet!

  "it's not an avant product"

  Pros: very little...

  Cons: Ok, first off, the publisher calls it Artisan DVD/DivX player not AVANT dvd/divx player. DO NOT BE MISLED!!! I got this cause I use Avant and love the browser, I wanted to see what the player was like. I was disappointed to say the least... now I have to fight with my laptop to connect to any of the networks I frequent (work, school, home, etc) this thing should get booted, not only is it crap but it's also under the wrong name!
