It's hard to tell if registry defraggers and cleaners work, but the Auslogics Registry Defragger looks good. It's hard to gauge if these programs are effective because once you're done using them, you'd need more than a mere store-bought machine with store-loaded programs to judge CPU speed.
When you run it, it tells you that it will perform a registry analysis, after which you will be able to review its registry report, and once that's done with you can run the registry optimization, requiring a reboot to defrag and compact the registry. It's a fairly serious program, and once you begin the analysis it won't let you move the mouse outside the program window. It also "strongly recommends" that users close all other programs while it runs, although this is a standard warning for registry-cleaning apps.
An expected change in clock speed or other performance benchmarks never materialized. Resource-intensive Internet browsers and e-mail clients may be piggish, but they're necessary and don't load any faster or slower than normal after running the reg defrag. Until a registry defragger or cleaner can demonstrate benchmarkable improvements to a computer, they'll be little more than 21st century snake oil.

Easy to use.
Cons
It doesn't work. It finds a ton of issues but never completely removes them and each scan seems to find additional issues even when ran consecutively. Plus there's no easy access to support available to discuss issues.

This registry defrag program does a nice job and there's a noticeable difference in computing speed after we've run it.
Cons
It takes a while to run, has no automatic update features, and doesn't allow you to do other things while it's running.

Pros
Used to use System Mechanic to adjust registry, which broke down the machine. This is a safe compactor of the registry, not requiring dangerous editing. Gives % improvements.
Cons
Suggests existence of thousand+ junk files, removable upon (surprise) purchasing another program. Cannot run anything else while working: screen goes monochrome and all other windows freeze; must then reboot.

Installs addware. it installs a Explore meny bar even if you don't click the alternativ when you install. What is even worse is that when you uninstall it don't uninstall the meny bar. that should be criminel to do like this.

Program works but the hav put in extra stuff that you as a user can't decide if you want or not and it will not be uninstalled when you uninstall the program. so it SUCKS and no one should download this and install it. time to give the program maker a signal that we do not tollerate this kind of things stuffed into programs and installs without the user knowlege. Download.com should not allow programs like this to carry the "No spyware included" tag that it have here.

AusLogics Registry Defrag works quite quickly. But, I'm not sure what it does re: AusLogics Disk Defrag. Does the latter ignore the registry?
