It's hard to tell if registry defraggers and cleaners work, but the Auslogics Registry Defragger looks good. It's hard to gauge if these programs are effective because once you're done using them, you'd need more than a mere store-bought machine with store-loaded programs to judge CPU speed.
When you run it, it tells you that it will perform a registry analysis, after which you will be able to review its registry report, and once that's done with you can run the registry optimization, requiring a reboot to defrag and compact the registry. It's a fairly serious program, and once you begin the analysis it won't let you move the mouse outside the program window. It also "strongly recommends" that users close all other programs while it runs, although this is a standard warning for registry-cleaning apps.
An expected change in clock speed or other performance benchmarks never materialized. Resource-intensive Internet browsers and e-mail clients may be piggish, but they're necessary and don't load any faster or slower than normal after running the reg defrag. Until a registry defragger or cleaner can demonstrate benchmarkable improvements to a computer, they'll be little more than 21st century snake oil.
Publisher's description
From Auslogics Software :Microsoft Windows and various programs access the registry a few hundred times a second. Therefore a fragmented registry is one of the major reasons why your computer may be so slow. Auslogics Registry Defrag can significantly speed up your computer by helping you defragment registry, remove gaps, and make it contiguous, smaller and faster to access.

Version: Auslogics Registry Defrag 4.1.8
Pros: I cannot give this software a five, because it does not yet show it's true potential. What has improved is the corrected font, whileas the previous versions had huge fonts in the settings window.
Cons: What I dislike is the "Optimize" tab in the main window. In my perspective, it promotes... something more like a ad. In addition, in the results window it also promotes "Your PC is not optimized". I mean who needs their PC to be optimized?! My PC runs smoothly.

Version: Auslogics Registry Defrag 4.1.8
"Tells fibs!!! Marketing Tool"
Pros: Free, nice interface all the popping squares are very impressive. However...................................................................................................................................
Cons: I have some doubts that this app does exactly what it says it does. I ran, as I always do, two clutteer cleaning apps to get rid of any junk on my disk, makes sense right? Then I ran the Auslogics Reg. Defrag. Sure enough it finished very quickly BUT it said that there were '660 junk files' On my disk that prevent completely defragging my disk. Having used two, exceptionally highly rated, junk cleaners prior to the defrag I very much doubt it!! So I clicked on the link that told me how to get rid of these false junk files and I wasn't surprised , from past experience, to discover that there was a PAID tool I could buy to get rid of all those NASTY junk files. I ignored that as I knew that it wasn't true in fact I know there are 13 junk files on my disk that are unsafe to remove, because it may interfere with other programmes to do so, so I choose not to. However, I digress, the Auslogics informed me that my disk was still over 30% fragmented. Probably trying to get me to buy the paid version as well as the disk cleaner I called my friend who had the same result [within 2-3 %] using this Defrag tool. After I ran my PC for a while it didn't seem any better at all. In short don't bother it is a marketing tool to get you to buy more of their software. Which may or may not work either.

Version: Auslogics Registry Defrag 4.1.8
Pros: Its fast and has a clean interface.
Cons: Like Cristiano59 above, I too found Registry Defrag identified many more problems that 4 other defragers had.
And, I also was disappointed with the need to pay for the Registry to be completely cleaned. If Registry Defrag is not 'free' then let's categorise as 'commercial' software so that those who are looking for freeware, do not need to to waste time on needless evaluations.
