CNET Editors' review
It's hard to tell if registry defraggers and cleaners work, but the Auslogics Registry Defragger looks good. It's hard to gauge if these programs are effective because once you're done using them, you'd need more than a mere store-bought machine with store-loaded programs to judge CPU speed.
When you run it, it tells you that it will perform a registry analysis, after which you will be able to review its registry report, and once that's done with you can run the registry optimization, requiring a reboot to defrag and compact the registry. It's a fairly serious program, and once you begin the analysis it won't let you move the mouse outside the program window. It also "strongly recommends" that users close all other programs while it runs, although this is a standard warning for registry-cleaning apps.
An expected change in clock speed or other performance benchmarks never materialized. Resource-intensive Internet browsers and e-mail clients may be piggish, but they're necessary and don't load any faster or slower than normal after running the reg defrag. Until a registry defragger or cleaner can demonstrate benchmarkable improvements to a computer, they'll be little more than 21st century snake oil.
Auslogics Registry Defrag - Optimize your registry and speed up your PC - Download Video Previews:Publisher's Description
From Auslogics Software:
Microsoft Windows and various programs access the registry a few hundred times a second. Therefore a fragmented registry is one of the major reasons why your computer may be so slow. Auslogics Registry Defrag can significantly speed up your computer by helping you defragment registry, remove gaps, and make it contiguous, smaller and faster to access.

"It will make your computer FAST"

I loved Auslogic's BoostSpeed and this and their Disk Defrag programs really make my computer faster. Talk about Vista running on 512 MB!!!

"Woked smoothly first off"
Version: Auslogics Registry Defrag 4.1.8
Pros
Its fast and has a clean interface.
Cons
Like Cristiano59 above, I too found Registry Defrag identified many more problems that 4 other defragers had.
And, I also was disappointed with the need to pay for the Registry to be completely cleaned. If Registry Defrag is not 'free' then let's categorise as 'commercial' software so that those who are looking for freeware, do not need to to waste time on needless evaluations.

"An awesome program"
Version: Auslogics Registry Defrag 4.1.8
Pros
I absolutely love this piece of programming art! It goes quickly, doesn't ask in popups for you to download some utility you don't need for 40 bucks, has an intuitive interface, and thoroughly does the job. My hats off to this piece of work and its cousin, Auslogics Disk Defrag.

"good bad and ugly"
Version: Auslogics Registry Defrag 4.1.8
Pros
This program seemed to show remarkable improvements with performance of my machine upon installation and on initial run the whole defrag fixation sounds as if it was doing what it was made-up to accomplish.
Cons
Registry fixes is something I need to avoid all together hence this particular module had actually ruined my computer on numerous occasions. Felt as if this program had ingeniously wreaked or thrown some sand into the registry engine that only the paid version can eliminate. Verdict: I will stay away from this program for a while or until honesty and sincerity is embedded into them.

"Uses the same ploy as other similar tools in this category...but..."
Version: Auslogics Registry Defrag 4.1.8
Pros
It does seem to do something to clean up the detritus left behind by other apps that have (intentionally?) poor uninstall &/or clean-up tools.
Still there are other tools one can d/l which are dedicated to clean removal of badly behaving apps and there is a free tool from SysInternals that defrags the registry (hives & all) extremely well and has a decade long history behind it.
No matter I did pop for the cost of upgrading to the paid version of these tools simply because I like their defrag util. But I agree it's a bit misleading to claim to be a free util only to report what it might be able to fix if you give them some cash...
But it does seem to do something...what exactly, like the C|net reviewer, it does, I am not 100% certain...I can say I tested the restore point it will create and it does seem to at least call the correct XP functions to create a restore point.
Cons
combined into the pro's section as there is only one downside I see and that is the lack of full disclosure that the "free" version is essentially crippled to the point of uselessness.
