Publisher's Description
From Audiograbber:
Audiograbber copies music from CDs or external sources such as radios, cassettes, or turntables. The music is saved on your hard disk as WAV, MP3, WMA, or OGG files. Audiograbber has all the common features of CD-ripper programs, such as normalizing, encoding of external files, track-name downloading and uploading from and to FreeDB, and support for ID3 tags and CD Text. The line-in-sampling function can automatically split recordings from LPs into separate tracks and use a noise-reduction plug-in from Algorithmix. It also can schedule recordings if you, for example, want to record a radio show when you're not home. Audiograbber is multilingual; the most common languages are included in the setup file, and others can be downloaded from the home page. The latest version adds a function to better deal with copy-protected CDs. Also new is built-in OGG support, and the program now can rip karaoke (CDG) discs.
What's new in this version: Version 1.83 SE is a bug fixing release.

"Great tool"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83 SE
Pros
I've been using it for years, I have ripped about 200 CDs in my collection, I think there was a fail just once. Lots of things to configure, including the possibility to bump the volume of a rip job (ideal when you rip pre-90s CDs). Some other cool features too, like chain ripping if you have tons of CDs. MP3s result in great audio quality, which experts attribute to a better designed ripping tool (when analyzing what to leave out for compression).
Cons
Can't rip to FLAC or any lossless, if I'm not mistaken.

"does what it promises"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83 SE
Pros
its ok for what it says
Cons
would be extremely useful if Audio books coild be captured in their correct format.

"Used to rip to MP3 but now only does .wav"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83 SE
Pros
Easy to use when it works
Cons
Even with the settings the same as before now when I rip a disc I get .wav files when it is set up to give me MP3 files. I then have to use a second program to convert them to MP3 and then rename them to get rid of the _converted that program adds in to the name.
Summary
This program has been available for a long while with no updates and it used to be brilliant. Nowadays it still is if you want .wav files only but if you want MP3 files it no longer works. May be it should have had an update by now.

"a must have program"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83 SE
Pros
great for recording streaming audio, and grabbing CD audio
Cons
bit of a pain in Win7 environment - wont record sound from Firefox.

"EXCELLENT - WHEN IT WORKS"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83 SE
Pros
Works as well as commercial products. The "Eject when finished" feature is good. Helps speed up extractions without monitoring.
The days of needing a thick stack of audio CD discs to handle long audio books is over for anyone using MP3 files. Other formats MAY be technically superior to MP3 in terms of files space vs quality.
BUT - and this is a BIG but - MP3 remains a common standard. I am VERY irritated to see "CD players" that do not play MP# discs. Of course, today, with small MP3 players so common, when "wired for sound" alone on long hikes and bike tours, MP3 files on players such as Sansa Clip etc are the only way to go.
By the way,- at least for spoken word - 64 BPS Bit Rate (or even lower) extractions result in high quality audio that sounds as good to me as higher bit rates. I confess NOT having a golden ear.Cons
Now and then, when ripping CD audiobooks to MP3 files, Audiograbber stops working mysteriously. Later on, after rebooting PC, it works OK again. To avoid the hassle of restarting PC, when this happens, I usually shift to AlltoMP3 program for extractions.
Summary
GREAT FREE PROGRAM. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. SO FAR, SO GOOD
