Publisher's Description
From Audiograbber:
Audiograbber copies music from CDs or external sources such as radios, cassettes, or turntables. The music is saved on your hard disk as WAV, MP3, WMA, or OGG files. Audiograbber has all the common features of CD-ripper programs, such as normalizing, encoding of external files, track-name downloading and uploading from and to FreeDB, and support for ID3 tags and CD Text.
The line-in-sampling function can automatically split recordings from LPs into separate tracks and use a noise-reduction plug-in from Algorithmix. It also can schedule recordings if you, for example, want to record a radio show when you're not home. Audiograbber is multilingual; the most common languages are included in the setup file, and others can be downloaded from the home page. The latest version adds a function to better deal with copy-protected CDs. Also new is built-in OGG support, and the program now can rip karaoke (CDG) discs.

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
Not a single one because frankly, I don't speak the language.
Cons
Alright now, it's bad enough that it doesn't come with instructions but...does it have to be in a foreign language?
Literally.
I mean, is this German or Dutch or what???
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/4026/audiograbbersux.jpgSummary
Pointless.
And yes, now there is a website for it but guess what...it's in a foreign language too.
Not appreciating you wasting my time CNET.
Not appreciating it at all. -
"Great Program, works on XP"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
-audio playback during recording for USB record players that don't output (I haven't seen another program that can do this properly)
-Easy setup and recordingCons
I can't find the options to set the audio quality. This could just be me though.
It doesn't seem to transfer recordings back to the main panel for me so that I can edit the track cut points, this would be a big plus.Summary
For free you couldn't really expect as much as you get from this program.
I've used commercial programs that have problems dealing with USB record players and can't handle playing back sound simultaneously. (Sony USB turntable doesn't support sound out during USB recording, but the program allows for this quite well) -
"Time Honoured App"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
Makes no false or exaggerated claims or promises. Does exactly what it says on the can. Stable freeware that's stood the test of time...Over 10 years!
Cons
This app does exactly what it promises and it does it well.
Summary
I started using this app back in 1999 and I'm still using it today. It does exactly what it says on the can! I love the line in sampling feature and when plugged into Lame it gives the highest quality mp3s possible. The Freedb feature saves time and effort. I remember been so pleased with this app that I actually bought a copy before it went freeware. The guy who sold (Jackie Franck) was the developer and he was a really nice guy who gave personal support for his product. I can only say to those who bemoan this app is: what can you expect for nothing? This is over 10 years old and it still been downloaded and used???? If I made a program like this I would be as proud as punch!
To use the lame encoder just download and extract the "lame_enc.dll" (http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=5195&s=22) to the audiograbber folder (usually c:\audiograbber).
Updated on Apr 16, 2010
Restart Audiograbber, press the MP3 button and select the lame encoder from the drop-down list of internal encoders. Then select the quality of MP3 encoding you want. Happy ripping!!!

To use the Vorbis OGG download the latest dll from http://www.rarewares.org/files/ogg/oggvorbis-dlls1.3.1.zip
Extract it to the AudioGrabber folder and follow the instructions above.
I would be interested if anyone knows of any other encoders that can be used with this procedure?
Happy ripping!!! -
"It took a little tweaking. Not much."
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
Very efficient. Quick. No muss, no fuss. It did exactly what I wanted it to do, which was to extract tracks from my old cd's.
Cons
I can't think of any. You may want to ignore it when it says it can't send the converted mp3's to your harddrive. Just right click and fire it there.
Summary
What can I say? It was free, and I'm thankful. If you like it uncomplicated, then this is the program for you. Works great on my older computer.

"Solid software, still seems to work OK..."
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
Simply one of the most reliable pieces of software I've ever used. Does exactly what it claims to do and does it fairly well.
Cons
Could use an update on general principles - no updates for several years. This could be both good (no bloat added) and bad (if it has any issues with modern OSes (Vista, Win7) or hardware). Also, as others have noted, interface is a bit dated.
Summary
Does what it says with little fuss and little bloat. Safe to use and easy to uninstall, although you probably won't want to. I know of nothing else in its price range (free!) that isn't crippled to the point of uselessness (FreeRip).
BTW, @lonesometwin: the website works fine. Perhaps you're trying to use the old website. The current site for Audiograbber is http://www.audiograbber.org and it is still active as of today (19-Mar-2010). -
"Used extensively for recording both Sceduled & Manual"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
Very versatile, for setting up Scheduled recording, and Manual recording with controlled recording time. Type of recording choice between .wav or .mp3, with normalising as part of the process. Quality of .mp3 can be selected. CD ripping works well.
Cons
None that have caused me any concern, but it does take a little while to familiarise yourself with its capabilities.
Summary
Likes:- Ability to preset a range of Scheduled recording times, with appropriate Titles for each, the date & time of recording forms part of the title. With computer left on standby the Scheduled Tasks facility in Windows XP can be used to automatically launch Audiograbber for each recording. With a radio or other audio equipment connected to the Line In jack this provides a sophisticated recording facility.
Good control of recording levels using the built in Level Meter.
Ability to choose between .wav or .mp3 types of recording including selecting the quality of .mp3 to be used.
Conversion from .wav to .mp3.
CD Ripping works well, with the ability to control how the resulting recording is filed, to accomodate personal preferences.
Altogether very pleased with a very useful programme, which is used sveral times every week. -
"I don't know because I have no idea how to use it."
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
I would like it a lot if I could figure out how to use it. I have a lot of cassettes I would like to record on cd's.
Cons
I have no idea how to use it because it didn't come with any user manual or any kind of instruction.
Summary
I don't know if I like it or not. I have no idea how to make it work.

"Better than we have a right to expect"
Version: Audiograbber 1.83
Pros
It works perfectly and it's free.
Cons
Looks old, but ***?
Summary
What more do you guys want? OK it's old, and apparently unsupported but there's no more you need from a ripper, as long as you're on XP or less. The website no longer functions btw.
