This Arkanoid clone gets praise for placing an interesting space-themed spin on an old formula but may have too many distractions for all but die-hard fans. Though not terrible, the graphics are merely mediocre, and we didn't think the cheerful music was an appropriate fit. As in other Arkanoid games, you must continually bounce a ball to break bricks. However, in this variation, the sky is filled with falling meteors, asteroids, and debris that don't affect gameplay but do distract you from the ball, although seasoned players may find this a challenge rather than a hindrance. We also wish the ball were a lighter color since it's tough to see against the dark-blue spacescape. You can adjust the screen-scrolling speed and the sound, but you won't find any fancy customization options. We should note that the program froze up in several of our tests but ran smoothly in others. True devotees of this style of game should certainly give Arkanoid The Virtual Isles a shot, but beginners may want a game with less commotion.
