CNET Editors' review
Apple's iTunes is one of the most popular music-managing programs available for Windows. It can organize thousands of songs and play them back in a high-quality audio format. It also makes it easy to buy music from Apple's huge online store. Is it the best choice for Windows users? That depends. If you own an iPod or similar Apple device, iTunes is probably the easiest way to link your device to your Windows PC. But it's a large program that not only manages your tunes but also wants to manage your videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and other media. It can be unwieldy if you just want to play your music. You might also say it's a free, all-in-one media center alternative keyed to Apple's hugely popular mobile devices and vast library of tunes.
We downloaded iTunes from Apple's site. We unchecked the update option since frequent, time-consuming updates that take over the program are one of the well-known complaints about iTunes; indeed, a new version became available as soon as we opened the program, which seemed a bit quick (why couldn't we just have the new version?). We also deselected updates on the installation wizard and opted not to make iTunes our default media player. The download also includes Apple Store access, though a new feature stores your purchases in the Cloud.
It's hard to please millions of users at once, but iTunes actually does a pretty good job of it, from its iconic interface to its video tutorials. If you're already committed to Apple's music empire, just go with iTunes. Even if you don't have an iPod (or any MP3 player) but just want to centralize your digital music and media in a do-it-all app -- and don't mind dangerously easy access to millions of tunes (including The Beatles) -- then iTunes has much to recommend it, especially when compared with Windows Media Center, which (in our view) suffers in comparison to nearly every other overgrown media player. Bottom line: iTunes is free. Try it and see for yourself if it's for you. If it's not, you're not even out the cost of an oldie.
Publisher's Description
From Apple:
iTunes is a free application for Mac and PC. It plays all your digital music and video. It syncs content to your iPod, iPhone, and Apple TV. And it's an entertainment superstore that stays open 24/7. iTunes can connect to the iTunes Store via the Internet to purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, iPod games, audiobooks, eBooks, podcasts, feature length films and movie rentals (not available in all countries), and ringtones (only used for iPhone).
What's new in this version: Version 10.6.1 fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view, and syncing photos to devices and resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

"Doesn't Work with XP 64"
Version: Apple iTunes (64-bit) 11.0.1
Pros
Since I couldn't install the software, I can't see any to mention.
Cons
Upon downloading, I got a message saying that they installer would not load because I didn't have Vista 64. This review does say that this is for XP 64, so someone is wrong somewhere.
Summary
For years Apple has penalized users of XP 64, yet I continue to beat my head against the wall hoping that they will reopen the gates of music management for I-Pod users that have XP 64. Apparently, our business is not that important to them. I will not buy another Apple product until this slight is taken care of.

"This incarnation caused me problems"
Version: Apple iTunes (64-bit) 10.7
Pros
I have used previous versions of iTunes in the past without problem.
I have always liked it until now.Cons
The morning after installing this version both of my disk drives (D: and E:) disappeared from my PC and trying to use them failed.
I deleted iTunes and its associated Apple folders, ran various cleaners such as CCleaner, Wise Disk Cleaner and Advanced SystemCare 6 and then rebooted.
After this my D: and E: drives reappeared !Summary
Great piece of software but with a problem for me this time.

Cons

-
"very proprietary and not so good any more piece of soft"
Version: Apple iTunes (64-bit) 10.4.1
Pros
it plays some formats. Music enhancing works well
Cons
does not play flac files. after a while i realized it is useless in organizing my library. It was a mistake to let do so. it moves files from folder to folder as it wishes. leaves empty folders. some albums I could not even collect to place.
Summary
its OK jukebox. it is not that good. If you decide to buy any music from its shop. be aware. for the price of regular cd you will get only a fraction of the quality. used to be a pitiable 128kbps. I think later it will be 256kbps but still that is far from original, intended quality. even that most people it will find good enough, still it is a rip off... One more thing is it would not play FLAC. That most music lovers use.

Cons

Summary

"A clean easy to use program (user of 3~4 years)"
Version: Apple iTunes (64-bit) 10.2.2
Pros
A large selection of arrangement options. Simple Interface. Good features such as remembering the location in audio-books, media info retrieval. Looks clean and tidy.
Cons
Relatively resource hungry. Runs additional background programs for syncing, could better be integrated into iTunes application. No player customisation. Can be unstable; prone to hangs. Download and updates are large compared to other players.
Summary
A must have program for managing media between your machine and other media players (iPods etc). Simple to use and a relatively streamline experience; but at the cost of customisation. A few stability issues in my experience.
