    "won't accept changes of service."

    January 21, 2011  |   By sicntired

    Version: Apple Backup 3.2

    Pros

So far I have been unable to make it change from daily to weekly. It is really annoying to have to wait for it every time I turn on my computer for anything.Other than that it works very well.

    Cons

Won't accept commands.Runs daily even after I changed to weekly, was told it had accepted my changes.I restarted the browser and it is still chugging away every daty at 730 and 4 am.

    Summary

I liked the 3 version and everything seemed to work well.I wanted the 3.2 and had to do some looking to find the upgrade. My complaint is that it doesn't seem to take commands.I am using a mac snow leopard and it should be working.

    Updated on Feb 5, 2011

I don't get it.I changed from daily to weekly with very little hassle.I imagine anyone who chose daily in the first place is a rookie like myself. It's just such a hassle to have to wait for the stupid backup every day when you start your computer.I'll add more when my computer goes down and I either have or don't have my files.

    "Not So Great"

    May 23, 2010  |   By Grandknight234

    Version: Apple Backup 3.2

    Pros

    Can run preconfigured backups.

    Cons

Any large (5+ gb) backup other then preconfigured caused panic.
    Not enough options.

    Summary

This app is good if you you want a simple easy to use interface and only use preconfigured or do small custom backups.

"provocative: slightly cumbersome: fnot easy to engage"

    May 4, 2010  |   By johnpmcneaiii_dotmac

    Version: Apple Backup 3.2

    Pros

it does, essentially, what's asked of it.

    Cons

Preferences were hard to set and didn't always backup when scheduled.

    Summary

As this is such a necessary product for all Macs both now and in the future; this should be the easiest of all applications in the computer to set. It should perform flawlessly: it doesn't.

    "Uniformly disappointing"

    Version: Apple Backup 3.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Every version we have used has failed in one way or another. Most recently, when I set up Source and Destination HDs and select what to back up, it garbles things badly, especially by refusing to back up to the external HD I have picked and switching to another HD. Worse, it saves to the wrong backup folder.
As with another reviewer, when I tried to recover, it was not effective.
I know that Apple is capable of superior software design, as with OS X, but the .Mac "benefits" package software has been second rate at best.

    "Not great"

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been so disappointed in this software.
It will backup my disk, but I've not been successful recovering some files I needed. Backup would crash every time. What good is a backup if you can't recover?

Note that this review is for the previous version. I'm going to try this new version to see if it's better.

    "Works great for me"

    March 1, 2007  |   By kayel

    Version: Apple Backup 3.1.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I like Backup because it is tidy and allows as much or as little customization as I like. It is easy to use and it works. I have restored from it successfully several times. I particularly like that it gives the option of choosing from several versions of any given file, based on the date. That way, in case I backup something that is not quite right, I still have an earlier version that I like to choose from instead. So I can't overwrite a good file with a bad one, just because it's newer.

    I like it.

"Backup Failed!!!! Do not trust your data to BU!"

    January 22, 2006  |   By glenncox--2008

    Version: Apple Backup 3.0.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I love my Macs, and in many many years of use they have never totally crashed to where my data was gone, until last week. My laptop died and could not be recovered. No problem, I had been using Backup 3.0.1. How wrong could I be! To make a long story short, this piece of junk would not reload to a new hard drive for a total restore, and the dot-mac email support was more than just a joke it was infuriating. After plainly describing in detail (with failure report logs included) what I was having trouble with, the standard cut and paste "help" emails basically told me how to run disk utility and then manually restore individual files. I had over 10,000 files! After about 8 hours (no kidding) of manually retrieving individual files, I retrieved much of my data but not in any organized fashion or with much confidence of what "version" I now have. All of my files are now dated (creation and modification) (the same) date of the incremental backups, and not their true dates. What a nightmare. I will NEVER use BU again! I am now cloning my HD once a week or so on one external hard drive, and physically copying my documents and libraries every week to another external hard drive, rotating/keeping as many versions as space permits. Obviously I am incredibly frustrated by this so take my recommendation with a grain of salt, but IF you are now using BU be ware, your safety net is made of wet toilet paper!
