Anim8or is a 3D computer animation program that is designed to allow straightforward creation of animations. You interactively create and edit objects, figures, and scenes directly on the computer's screen. The basic interface is similar to most 3D animation and CAD programs. You control various aspects of your work using an ordinary computer mouse or tablet. You select and drag, rotate, scale and place objects by clicking in the various views of your work. There are two toolbars that you can use for common tasks. The one at the top of the has buttons for general commands that are used throughout Anim8or, while the one on the left allows you to change your mode of operation for common tasks in the current that you are using. The usual menu is there for less frequently used tasks.
Simple user interface and easy to use, great for beginners! Runs on almost any Windows computer under the sun, even computers that are 10 years and older! Perhaps the greatest 3D modelling and animation program created by one person! Supports scripts downloadable from the website, to allow even more functionality. Requires no installation (can carry in USB stick) and tiny file size (under 3MB) Its more powerful than it looks, you'll have to read the manual to find out what it can really do.
Hasn't been updated in quite some time, it unclear if it will ever be updated. Can be very slow to render animations. The GUI isn't the most modern looking one.
For what it is, Anim8or is very impressive, Its amazing how 1 person could create such a powerful program and keep the file size to a minimum (version 0.97 is 2MB!) If you want to learn about modelling and animation this is probably your best bet, at least in the beginning. And like any program that you start using always read the manual, it will help you tremendously. Don't underestimate this little guy.
For object creation, Anim8or is better than almost all the other programs. Extrusions are simple to perform! Start a project and save it as a Wavefront OBJ. There are scripts (plugins) available to add useful tools to the toolbar.
2006 is ever further away. Ancient program for XP users and so on. Or Vista users, if you go to the developer's website and download version 0.97b. The Anim8or website also has a download of the 0.95 version for Windows 7. And similar to Daz3D, you'll have to click a toolbar button to pan & drag your view of the object.
The Pdf documentation that comes with the program is great at explaining how to use the tools! You'll be playing with a mesh in minutes instead of hours. Steve Glanville, the developer, did an excellent job of authoring a production level application.
Website is packed with updates tutorials and a community of carers. Just got it so I cant say if its easy will get back on that. Oh and for the vista question on the web site they have help for vista users.
1. Very robust app perfect for beginners to 3D modeling
2. Very lightweight (not bloated and doesn't slow computer down to a crawl)
3. Easy learning curve
4. User friendly
GUI could be streamlined a little bit to make workflow easier
If you're an absolute newbie to 3D modeling and looking for an easy, yet highly functional program to use, I can't recommend Anim8or enough. It's the perfect app to cut your tooth on and learn all the ins and outs of modeling without being overwhelmed with a gajillion menu items, palettes and cryptic functions that take forever to learn. No, it doesn't offer a lot of the snazzy stuff that you'd get in a high end program, but it's so robust that you can get a lot of mileage out of this program for your pet projects without the need for one. So... two thumbs up from me!
this is a really easy to use piece of 3D Graphics software and i would reccommend it to anyone. it can look a bit daughnting if this is your first peice of 3D modelling but is you read the tutorials on the official webpage (anim8or.com) it all becomes very clear and easy to use.
