Album Artwork Assistant for Mac

Publisher's Description

From Marc Liyanage:

Album Artwork Assistant finds album cover artwork on the Internet and adds it to music track files in iTunes. Other tools like it exist, but none of them worked the way I wanted (mostly the batch queue).

What's new in this version: Fixes the broken queue under Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. QuickLook is still broken and the fix for that will make the next and all future versions of this program Snow Leopard (and thus Intel) only, so this update would be a good time for Leopard and PPC users to switch off automatic update checks.

    Version: Album Artwork Assistant 3.0

    Pros

    None -- it didn't work

    Cons

It launched, and immediately updated the software. And then crashed every time I tried to use it.

    "Great One Trick Pony!"

    April 6, 2011  |   By nikabuz

    Version: Album Artwork Assistant 3.0

    Pros

Simple. Easy to use. Very rarely fails to find artwork. Usually gives you plenty of options at various image sizes to choose from. Small file size. Pretty fast as well. Free!

    Cons

A bit time-consuming if you've got a lot of artwork to find - no batch management function. Occasionally finds artwork then advises that it's not available for use - a minor annoyance.

    Summary

I use this software instead of the built-in artwork finder in iTunes. It locates artwork on both Amazon & Google. I like to use high quality artwork & sometimes iTunes doesn't locate good quality album covers or doesn't find them at all. With this program you get a choice. Generally will find several options & details the pixel size of each one.

    It's brilliant & it's also free! A real no-brainer.
Just get it - you won't be sorry.

FYI: I run Mac OSX 10.6.7 on a 24in Intel iMac.

    Version: Album Artwork Assistant 3.0

    Pros

Simple interface, select tracks in iTunes, fetch, search for artwork, add, done.

    Cons

No batch management, only one album at a time. When working in 2 windows it can grow on you.

    "I love this program!"

This is a great addition to iTunes. With both iTunes and Album Artwork Assistant, I have been able to find all the artwork for my albums, including international ones. It's very easy to use and would recommend it to anyone who cares about having all their album artwork. The only tiny complaint I have is that I had to go the the developer website to figure out how to use the program.

"finally, artwork for all my music"

    Version: Album Artwork Assistant 2.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
A simple, elegant (did I say free?) solution to all my missing artwork. No, the process is not automated, but I was able fill in the gaps on my large collection in one evening of obsessive fun. Just follow the instructions in the Help, que up your corrections and let'r'roll.

The only drawbacks I could find were the following:
    1) If an album/cd is named "Greatest Hits" in iTunes, the artwork for every album named "Greatest Hits" (a fair number in my music) will all get the same artwork. My work around was to rename "Greatest Hits" (Bob Dylan) to "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" after highlighting all the tunes on the album, then using Get Info to rename the album. Then assign artwork.
    2) If you que a list for processing, and theres a data error of some sort within the que, the error message you receive may not identify the faulty data well enough for lunkheads (like me) to readily identify the offending album to remove from the process que. Patience & working backward through the que, as well as que-ing a smaller number of albums in case there's a problem, took care of this issue (ie make your process que a smaller manageable number, instead of the huge one I created at first).

This program is great. I'm now enjoying my collection on a different level thanks to Artwork Assistant. Recommended.

    "Very Useful"

    January 13, 2009  |   By julia2

    Version: Album Artwork Assistant 2.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I love this program, it doesn't try to do too much. I keep it running all the time and when a track comes up without artwork it's right there to search for me. I like the way it overwrites existing artwork, making it easy to correct or update covers. Developer seems quite active in issuing updates. Two things I would like to see:

    1) The ability to search tracks that don't have album info. Yes, it's a crapshoot, but sometimes you get lucky or at least get clues as to what album the track came from. You can use the built-in browser to search for whatever you want, but AAA won't load the tracks so there are additional steps that make it easier just to switch to my regular browser.

    2) The ability to quicklook/expand/zoom image search results with a mouse action (right click or double-click). It's a nuisance to have to keep hitting the space bar when I'm working primarily with the mouse.

I could ask for it to give me a list of tracks with missing artwork but then it'd probably turn into one of those bloated expensive apps that doesn't work well...
